The singers were awesome. I was expecting a little more of a festive christmas show.
We had previously seen Neil Berg's 100 Years of Broadway at the Cobb Energy Centre. We returned again this year for the Broadway Holiday Show and thoroughly enjoyed it. Where else can you see this much talent (from all the big Broadway plays) on one stage? It was also very special to have some Georgia natives and residents in the cast! Go see it next time it comes to town!
I expected a true, real Broadway Christmas show. Good singers and pianist, but no dancers, and very poor orchestration. A drummer. a bass player, not enough for this type of show. Also, Broadway songs selected, not the most popular.
It was clear all the performers were very talented in their own right, but from the missed cues in the very first song "We Need A Little Christmas", it was also clear that they had not come together for a single dress rehearsal before the performance. This was a Broadway review with a very few Christmas songs crammed in at the end simply to justify the sales pitch. We were distracted by the kids in the seats around us until I realized their parents were duped like we were, thinking this was a Christmas show for children and adults alike. If these folks were playing at a local bar for tips I would understand the misleading billing and no rehearsal, but in between songs they couldn't even remember the names of the band members. When Mr. Berg tried to introduce the members of the band, they weren't even expecting it, and the keyboardist walked off stage just as Mr. Berg turned to introduce him, and he was gone. Their individual Broadway songs, which garnered each of them fame were certainly well done, but the group holiday numbers were poorly arranged and full of pitch problems. Again, not a Holiday Show, and should not have been sold as such.
This show was great fun! Its definitely more Broadway than Holiday but I was NOT complaining. The performers were top notch! If you love Broadway mixed with a little holiday cheer...you will love this show!
