About the NASCAR XFINITY Series

The future stars of the NASCAR Cup battle against each other in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. For nearly four decades, the NASCAR XFINITY Series has been a proving ground for the top rising talent in stock car racing, giving them a chance to compete at the same venues and on the same weekends as the NASCAR Cup Series races. It continues a long tradition of support races that basically serve as an undercard to the NASCAR Cup events, as well as a companion to qualifying events that also take place the day of the NXS event.

History of the NASCAR XFINITY Series

The NASCAR XFINITY Series began in 1982 as the Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series and evolved from the NASCAR Sportsman and Late Model Sportsman Divisions. Dale Earnhardt, whose father Ralph won the Sportsman Division title in 1956, won the first-ever NXS race, the 1982 Goody's 300 at Daytona, while driver/owner Jack Ingram won the inaugural Series championship the same year. The series would become known as the Busch Grand National Series, the NASCAR Busch Series, and the NASCAR Nationwide Series throughout the '80s, '90s, and '00s, and it gained a reputation both as NASCAR's minor league and a further opportunity for NASCAR Cup stars to excel on the track.

NASCAR XFINITY Series vehicles differ significantly from their NASCAR Cup counterparts, especially after the NASCAR Car of Tomorrow was introduced in 2007. But they're similar enough for NXS drivers to excel in the main circuit, with two-time NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Busch winning the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series title and a record 96 NXS victories. The NASCAR XFINITY Series playoffs were introduced in 2016 and feature a format similar to the NASCAR Cup Series, called Chase for the Cup. Tyler Reddick won the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship in 2018 and 2019 before transitioning to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020.

    First timer

by Freuli on 9/18/18Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Las Vegas

It was the first time I went to such an event. It was really great! The only thing, which was disturbing was the high temperature. During training and qualifying sessions many many of the spectators were looking for place to sit in the shadow, meaning under the grandstands. But there were too few possibilities to sit on. Another solution would be a roof over the grandstands. It was just too hot, to stay there. Another thing was the noise. I was not aware, that these cars produce such a tremendous noise. Maybe for "first timers" it should be informed about this. And even a free distribution of ear plugs (they really cost nothing) would be very much appricieated.

Whelen Modifieds put on the best races of the weekend and some of the best racing I have ever seen.Other series would do well to take a look at how good modified racing really is. Wouldn't walk across the street to see Xfinity or Sprint Cup. NASCAR should promote the modifieds more.

    New Hampshire Xfinity Race

by FrankieFiveAngels on 7/19/16New Hampshire Motor Speedway - Loudon

If you enjoy watching 39 cars chasing Kyle Busch around an oval for 2 hours, then go to an Xfinity race. I will no longer waste my time and money until they stop allowing Sprint Cup drivers from racing in this division.

    NASCAR doubleheader excellent

by NATLPD on 3/1/16Atlanta Motor Speedway - Hampton

Well worth our time and money! In one day we saw the Sprint Cup guys practice, Xfinity race and Camping World trucks race. Two races for less total miles than the Sprint Cup. 500 miles is too long and can be boring plus less traffic for the Saturday doubleheader compared to Sunday. Hope AMS does it again.

by Anonymous on 3/3/15Atlanta Motor Speedway - Hampton

We are NASCAR fans but should have known the weather would be the killer. It was too cold and wet. We attended the Saturday race but not Sunday In fact we were back in warm florida by lap 20 of the Sunday race.

    Great Day @ AMS

by MechelleyInGa on 3/3/15Atlanta Motor Speedway - Hampton

The only downside is that the race is in February, it was quite chilly. We are bummed that the date has changed. With that said, it is always a wonderful experience. We loved the double header and always appreciate the no admission cost for our kids. It is a wonderful family fun day for us. We love the grandstand area, not a bad seat around. We were right up close to the track and it was a wonderful experience for us all.

Good experience. Nice to see 2 races in a day. Race scanner did not work due to our seats being under the metal cover.
