A wonderful event - Miss Wilson (I can't imagine calling her anything else) is one of the last class acts in music. Style, taste, talent - all things that she has to spare.
Miss Wilson sang a wonderful selection of songs that suited her voice. At 75 years old, Wilson is a singer, an actress, and a storyteller at the same time. Her work shows a long distillation of life experience and a continuation of her incredibly high standards.
An observation - in todays music scene, how many artists performing in an outdoor venue in 85 degree heat on a humid Summer night would be formally and beautifully dressed, not to mention having her trio in tuxedos? Again, Miss Wilson keeps a very high standard.
It's amazing to me that the venue was not sold out. The Dell East shows great improvement, although small things such as the ushers being better trained and the vendors posting signage would help.
I do think the concert could have been better marketed - when Miss Wilson was at the Kimmel Center 4 or 5 years ago, the hall was much more sold.
In all - a wonderful evening. I can only hope that Miss Wilson keeps performing and hold off on retirement a bit longer.
