Nahko and Medicine for the People on Tour
Nahko and Medicine for the People are best experienced in concert. That's where this sprawling musical collective come alive, in the fertile call-and-response with the fellow travelers they call their fans. Nahko and company are on a journey, and it's got a lot to do with the self-discovery and healing that music makes possible. The group have been embraced for their positive messages and multiethnic musical approach, and they've become confirmed festival favorites, touring with the likes of Rebelution, Michael Franti and SOJA. Nahko is known as much for his political speechifying and spoken word as his singing, and any live show is sure to include both good vibes and powerfully political, justice-oriented content.
Nahko and Medicine for the People in Concert
The exuberantly tattooed Nahko, also known as Nahko Bear, grew up in Portland, Oregon. He was adopted into a white, religious family, but his birth family's heritage included Mohawk, Apache, Filipino and Puerto Rican ancestry. He has called on that heritage throughout his musical career, entwining songs of personal discovery with messages of social justice. Nahko showed musical aptitude early, playing piano and eventually picking up the guitar before going on to become a musical director. But the road called, and Bear took up an itinerant lifestyle, eventually landing in Hawaii. The beginnings of the band formed there, where Nahko met Australian 12-string guitarist Chase Makai, drummer Justin Chittams and trumpeter Max Ribner. Other musicians have come and gone along the way, but the band's core includes six full-time members. The group released their debut album, Dark as Night, in 2013, and followed it up quickly with 2014's On the Verge. They reappeared with Hoka in 2016 and the album reached 72 on the Billboard 200. In 2017, Bear returned to his solo roots with My Name Is Bear, an album of songs he wrote before forming the band.
Nahko was amazing and really engaged with the audience. Inspiring musician with a mission. Thank you Nahko!
It was such a blessing to be a part of this night. The opening acts were amazing and Mftp definitely brought the medicine.
The show was amazing. It was my first time seeing nahko and I had a blast. My only complaint is the 10 people with their cell phones recording the entire show blocking me from seeing the stage and many others who were standing behind them. YOU DO NOT DO THIS AT SHOWS! If you want to watch a band through a screen go on YouTube. People paid good money to see this band and you're selfishly blocking everyone behind you from seeing the band. This needs to be something that is stopped for future shows. Be present and I'm the moment for a band you love.
We had an amazing time at the show. The vibe was so positive and peaceful. The music was magical and I would recommend anyone to attend if they had the chance. If you want to check out a very inspirational song and beautiful video, check out "Aloha ke akua" but just a heads up it is quite lengthy. But totally worth it.
Nahko and MFTP helped the crowd open their hearts and pray for love and unity. Seeing them is like going to church and inspires me to be the best human I can be. So grateful.
An amazing performance and experience. I highly recommend this band and others like them
Amazing show and amazing guests. Everyone was very respectful.
I had a great time seeing Nahko live. I would go to another concert of his any day!
While it took too long before Nahko came on stage and the banana girl and the duo were OK, the Nahko show was unforgettable with excellent new material. We would have liked to hear the Building Bridges song as it was appropriate for St. Louis but the Love Letters to God made up for it. We wish him success in Europe!
Just wow - the musicianship - the vibrancy - the energy - the dynamics - the tone - the rhythms! All combined in a relatively small venue to create a solid amalgam of wondrous soul touching beauty ! Nahko and his tribe did not disappoint - After the final encore, I didn't want to go home - I didn't want to leave the power of the music.
These guys are amazing!! If you have a chance to see them, do!!
Nahko Bear and the band were in complete synchronicity with the audience in this intimate venue. He spoke about the need for us all to WAKE up and love each other. the music from the new album wasp on....
I took my work friends to go meet up with my yoga friends. We all vibes and felt like the space was very well supported.
It was awesome to be around Nahko and their positive energy; listening to positive music, songs with great messages in their lyrics...
Nahko was an incredible performer who really touched the souls of the audience. Justin Chittams (Chitty Bang) brought the fun and Max Ribner's flugelhorn solo was riveting. I loved the venue because of how intimate it was. Truly an amazing night that I will never forget!
No other show, give so much joy. Good thing are coming.
great band, great message..... keep spreading the good vibes, nahko bear.
It was just what I needed. Life hands us all raw deals, and sometimes a mini vacation is just what you need. We all have a series of unfortunate events that have served as stepping stones. Taking time to step away from all of that is important. The show was a nice reprieve from the negativity of life. To be around good friends and good vibes helped more than you will ever know. Additionally, for such a divers group of people (audience included), it was nice to be around so many like minded individuals. It seems as though many people in this world are more concerned with their own selfish needs. Being at that show helped remind me that there is good in others. Moreover, the event helped expand my world view through my interactions with others. I can honestly say that I have never learned so much as a show. It was an amazing experience. Much love & Soul coffee!
Beautiful conscious music. Amazing stage show. Heartfelt authentic messages between songs. Gorgeous intimate venue. I'm not gonna lie, i got pretty emotional. Pretty rare for a concert to do that.
This was a fabulous concert!! Nakho never disappoints!! I am an even bigger fan now, his medicine and message is amazing!! A must see for sure, please come back again soon!!
