Music of Le Zeppelin was terrific

by 33LP on 5/24/13National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Might as well have been the real thing at a 1970's concert . Fun to engage, best of all was the full sound added from the NAC orchestra. Bravo to all!

I had never seen the Lord of the Ring movies or read the books, even though my kids had. The Orchestra's performance was blissful. It was a most enjoyable family outing, which all 4 of us throroughly enjoyed. I would love to see more performances such as this.

    Great Performance

by Anonymous on 4/22/12National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

A very worthwhile expenditure of funds to spend an evening of excellence at the NAC. The music, though familiar, was as fresh as the first time I ever heard it. How fortunate we are to have such live performances available to us in the nation's capital. Pinchas Zuckerman is a master of his craft and never fails to inspire.

    Kimura Parker was outstanding!

by songbird58 on 2/18/12National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We had a wonderful evening! The Grieg was especially wonderful and we were very impressed with Jon Kimura Parker--such control but such a powerful and moving range of dynamic contrasts. The Stravinsky was very clean and a very interesting piece which showed off the solo skills of the orchestra members. While Dvorak 6th symphony isn't my favorite piece, it was well-played. The young guest conductor was very impressive. We'll be sure to return soon!

    underwhelmed

by stonemaker on 12/18/11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

unfortunately, the NAC orchestra totally overwhelmed the singing, particularly when the chorus was in play. The gospel rant on buying CD's was at best in poor taste. we left at the intermission.

    Great Performance

by tmunr on 12/16/11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The soloists did a great job. I came away with a new favourite - "And His name shall be called - Wonderful - Counsellor - the might God the everlasting Father - the Prince of Peace." - followed closely by the Hallelujah Chorus I was in the second row - middle - and the bass fiddle player was a real treat to watch. She was so physically into the music and smiling - I enjoyed watching her as much as the soloists.

    This was a wonderful concert!

by Pinkyfan on 10/2/11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I enjoyed this concert of Russian music conducted by Pinchas Zukerman, I thought he was "just" going to conduct, which would have been quite a treat. But he also played the violin! The concert started with him playing a beautiful short piece along with the fabulous NAC Orchestra. The orchestra is as good as any I've heard, including the New York Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Then he conducted the rest of the concert with a talented young piano soloist.

    This was a fabulous concert!

by Pinkyfan on 10/2/11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I really enjoyed this concert. Seeing Pinchas Zukerman conduct is a privilege and a treat. They had a wonderful piano soloist. I think it was the same guy I saw in June at Avery Fisher Hall. The New York Philharmonic did a concert of Russian music conducted by Bramwell Tovey that also had a piano soloist. I think it was the same pianist. He was fabulous with the NAC orchestra!
