MYSTERY SKULLS ON TOUR:

LA-based electropop outfit Mystery Skulls always gets fans dancing with funky tunes that combine slick beats, kaleidoscopic synths, and soulful vocals. Mystery Skulls is the brainchild of Luis Dubuc, a multi-talented producer and singer who has been cranking out catchy electro jams for the past decade under various monikers. In concert Dubuc mans his Mac laptop like a boss, jumping around with infectious energy as he triggers samples, applies filters, and conjures up epic builds and drops on the spot. His technical maneuvering is impressive but the real star of the show is his emotive voice, which elevates high-octane tracks like “Ghost” and “Magic” (feat. Brandy) into the stratosphere. Fans of electropop, EDM, and good old-fashioned funk won’t want to miss the chance to get down with Mystery Skulls in concert.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Dallas-born Luis Alberto Dubuc Jr. cut his teeth playing drums in a metal band before a night out at a Mouse On Mars show piqued his interest in electronic music. Luis bought a Mac and started experimenting with sounds, and in 2004 he made his debut under the name The Secret Handshake with the album Antarctica. Three more fun and funky albums followed under the moniker, but by 2011 Dubuc felt his increasingly polished sound needed a new home and a new name. After relocating to Los Angeles in 2011 and rechristening himself Mystery Skulls he released a self-titled EP later that year and got the attention of execs at Warner Bros. Records. He made his debut on the label in 2014 with Forever, which peaked at No. 3 on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart and spawned the hit “Ghost”. The album featured collaborations with funk icon Nile Rogers and R&B songstress Brandy, a testament to Dubuc’s increasingly influential reputation as a producer. Since then he’s impressed fans across the country on tour, drumming up major excitement for Mystery Skulls’ sophomore album.

    Can't Stop Playing Bangers

by TDPIV on 5/5/22Constellation Room - Santa Ana

Not my first Mystery Skulls concert, but it was my first time at the Constellation Room venue. Love the banger music and had just enough room to move and groove along. Played those funky favorites and got to hear the new tunes fresh on some real speakers. Can't wait for the next one!

More Fun than a Box of Puppies

by Remy on 7/14/19The Masquerade - Atlanta

Getting older has it’s perks and it’s disadvantages. This past show was my first concert in nearly 15 years and I have to say... I felt like I was back in my early 20’s. I’ve been following Mystery Skulls since they popped on the music scene and could not pass up the chance to see a live show. I was not disappointed in my expectations. The energy was electric and the crowd was riding that like a professional surfer. I could have not have asked for a better experience for my return to live music. Thanks go to The Masquerade and the Mystery Skulls and friends for giving me a night I will remember for the rest of my life.

    Site and Show

by MysteryPhang on 7/14/19The Masquerade - Atlanta

Venue: Industrial feng shui. Perfect for the artists. Sound was slightly distorted but the lighting controls were spot on. Artists: very entertaining. They were full of energy and looked like they could play another full set. Mystery Skulls Phangs and Bloodsnow's performance was well worth the money.

    Great Experience

    by M. A. on 7/14/19The Masquerade - Atlanta

The only issue was I had trouble finding parking for the venue. Other than that it was super fun and one of the best concerts!

    Amazing!

by Kins on 6/26/19B Side at House of Blues Las Vegas - Las Vegas

There was so much positive energy and love in the House of Blues. All of the performers seemed to be having a really good time, just like the crowd. Meeting Luis was an awesome experience, just wish I knew what to say!

One of the best vibes I've seen at a show

by R. on 6/26/19Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

This show was definitely one of the greatest I've been to in a long time. Between the energy each artist put out and the crowd matching that and then some.

    Great show!

    by M. N. on 6/25/19Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

I loved the show! Snowblood, Phangs and Mystery Skulls were great! I was a little apprehensive about the cleanliness of the venue at first, after walking around the area for an hour- L.A is a big steamy pile of garbage and homelessness- but after getting inside I felt way better. The bathrooms were clean, the staff friendly and there were no odd odors! It wasn't stuffy either! The only complaints I have are the effects on the mics for Snowblood and Mystery Skulls made it hard to hear/understand them when they were talking to the crowd. And that Mystery Skulls remained in the dark his entire set. It made me feel like it wasn't even him up there! Otherwise, I had a great time and I would go to another MS show again.

    Mystery Skulls Performance

by J. W. on 6/20/19Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

The opening acts were wonderful! The headliner "Mystery Skulls" did not disappoint and gave an unforgettable experience and wonderfully thought-provoking memories! Also, Mr. Dubuc performed with his opening acts onstage to give them more exposure. Very impressive!

    Only Problem was the Line

by N. M. on 6/19/19Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

The line didn't have a lot of room to grow so it moved into a very narrow hallway with a bunch of great pictures but it got warm and very uncomfortable for claustrophobic people. Not a super long wait but moving into the hallway was a bad idea.

    Mystery Skulls was incredible!

by Caitmc on 8/29/15Brighton Music Hall - Boston

One of the best concerts I've been to! The venue was small, but I enjoyed that about it. It was comfortable, cozy, and easy to find. More importantly, the opening act, Luxley, and the main, Mystery Skulls, we're amazing! Every song the whole night through made you want to move and both acts were highly interactive with their captive audience!

    Luis is multitasking king

by cshin on 8/25/15Mercury Lounge - New York

The bouncer went ape on a under-aged female who tried to get in and then frantically ran away after the she was released by his grip. My friend and I missed 20 minutes of the show so that was a bit of a disappointment, but the performance was perfect. Luis performed in NY for the first time since his tour in Europe and was pumped with energy! He sang and dj-ed simultaneously for a couple hours and it was amazing!!!
