    Entertaining from beginning to end

by Mo on 1/30/20Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

Really enjoyed the character portrayal and entertaining stories! Felt like a guest at Jack's house. The Mars Music Hall has work to be done on sound system but David Payne pushed through. Great afternoon that turned to evening.

    Captivating

by AnnB on 1/29/20Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

The performance exceeded my expectations, which were high. Mars Music Hall has some bugs to work out, such as the sound system, which I'm sure will happen soon.

    Venue had issues

by Gigi on 1/29/20Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

The show itself was very good. The venue had a lot of noise that was inappropriate for a show of this type. First half sound was too low to catch everything said. That was addressed at intermission. At the beginning there was a lot of what sounded like moving chairs and/or tables in the balcony area. Toward the end of the show, after the “bar” closed, we could here talking and walking behind the screen at the bar. For this type show, these things were very distracting.

    Wonderful!

by Mom on 1/29/20Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

I bought tickets to this performance as a Christmas present for my daughter. We both loved it! We felt like we were in CS Lewis’ living room. Excellent, excellent!

    Amiable, Witty, Poignant & Accurate

by SouthernFriedTech on 1/29/20Mars Music Hall - Huntsville

This play afforded a warm and funny look into the life of C.S. Lewis. More, I found it a beautiful, quite, contemplative space to think about important things in life. I was a little concerned about whether it would try to circumvent his Christianity. But that was not the case. It was an integral part of his character, and was treated as such. At the same time, it was not an evangelization. (Well, not to me, who grew up Southern Baptist and know a hard core evangelization when I see one.) If you love Lewis, if you love uplifting stories of a quiet life, go see this play.

    High Hopes

by Ash on 10/14/19Ames Center - Burnsville

The delivery was very impressive, the setting intimate, but I had higher hopes for deeper content based on the clips I had seen of this performance on the website. Specifically, I was interested in his religious awakening, which was summarized too succintly in "when I got into the side car, I didn't believe, and when I got out of it I did." A deeper dive into what caused his conversion was what drew me to this performance so I left feeling disappointed.

What a fabulous event! Payne was superb as Lewis. I loved every minute. Funny, serious, spell-binding, sad, intriguing - this show had it all. So glad I went!

    Incredible

    by S. B. on 10/13/19Ames Center - Burnsville

Simply one of the best nights I have had in a long time. Entertaining, informational and funny! I'm not great at adjectives, but this was way better than good. I enjoyed it so much that I am still thinking very fondly about the play several days later. I have already told several people about it in glowing terms.

    Enjoyable trip

Enjoyed a performance geared to those of us who love a great story. Even without any chase scenes or drama was very entertaining.

    A Fascinating Story

by c. d. on 10/9/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I found this play to be very well done, a fascinating story of an interesting, amazing life. One man tells the story in the character of author and professor C. S. Lewis. I was so enthralled with the first act that intermission slipped up on me! Then....even though I knew the story of Lewis' marriage to Joy, I cried like I had never heard it! The acting was superb. I would be very interested in seeing the other plays based on relationships that C. S. Lewis had. I have contacted friends that live in NY and Chicago to alert them that this play is en route and would be a shame for them to miss in it's travels.

Wonderful visit with C. S. Lewis, by proxy!

by Philosophydoc on 10/9/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

After the performance was over, one had the feeling of actually having visited with Jack Lewis for an evening! His brilliant sense of humor and his passion for Christianity were unmistakeable.

A cup of tea with Lewis

by MamaSweaz on 10/8/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I confess that I went to the play with low expectations but came away absolutely delighted with the experience. It felt like my guests and I got to enjoy an intimate evening of good conversation with a new friend. We came away having the sense that we actually knew CS Lewis better than we thought!

This show, by far, exceeded my expectations. David Payne truly made me believe I was sitting in a living room listening to CS Lewis. The show brings laughter and tears. I left feeling inspired and uplifted.

    Wonderful

by PJ on 10/8/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I have read CS Lewis for years. I’ve also seen a documentary of his life. Within minutes of this event, i felt like “Jack” was really sitting there talking to me. It left me with the desire to see more. Ending with a standing ovation (and I was the first person to stand), i hope to see more from this amazing actor.
