About

Mr Eazi on Tour

Nigeria has dominated the Afrobeats scene for years with its heady mix of local music, global pop, and hip-hop. But the country's native son Mr Eazi takes the fusion to a whole new level with his self-styled "Banku" music — a potent mélange of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian music.

Half the magic is in the language: This man can slide from the Queen's English to fluent Yoruba in the space of a single line, touching on Ghanaian pidgin English along the way. And he does it all with an almost palpable sense of cool, merging a silken vocal sensibility, which owes a debt to reggae and R&B, with effortless beats that inspire monster dance parties. It makes for a heady, border-erasing listen.

This is instant street party music, and it's made Eazi popular on the tour circuit. He was the opening act on J Balvin's 2018 Vibras tour, and he brought his own Lagos to London tour to the U.S. in 2019.

Mr Eazi Background

Mr Eazi was born Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, in 1991. He moved to Kumasi, Ghana, at age 15 to attend the science and technology college KNUST. There, his engineering studies vied for attention with his burgeoning career as a club promoter. Eventually, the music won.

In 2013, he dropped his first mixtape, the prophetically titled About to Blow. Two tracks did indeed blow up: "Pipi Dance" and "Bankulize." That set the stage for his eventual return to Nigeria and the release of 2017's Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra to Lagos, featuring the beautifully minimalist hits "Leg Over" and "Skin Tight."

His songs were taken up by the dance community, who released videos that contributed to the music's viral dissemination. His third mixtape, Life Is Eazi, Vol. 2 – Lagos to London, paid homage to the U.K. club scene, which, with its community of African expats, has proved pivotal to his rise.

The accolades have come thick and fast, too. In 2016, Mr Eazi pulled down a slew of awards, including winning at the WatsUp TV Africa Music Video Awards, Soundcity MVP Awards, The Headies, MOBO, and Nigeria Entertainment Awards. While Nigeria and the U.K. remain his base communities, he's now making global moves, building a devoted following across the African continent and making inroads in the U.S.

In March 2018, he signed a deal with Diplo's Mad Decent label and landed the coveted opening spot on reggaeton star J Balvin's 2018 tour. In 2019, he undertook a 16-city North American tour set to culminate in a performance at Coachella. He also won Digital Artist of the Year at the 2019 Soundcity MVP Awards.

Love Mr. Eazi However a very poorly organized event!

    by S. R. on 7/15/21

I bought tickets to see Burna Boy, Mr. Eazi And Teni. I drove up from Tampa to Atlanta which is about a 7 Hour drive plus hotel costs - so I was very disappointed when I found out that the concert had been completely rearranged and not what I had bought tickets for. I will say however Mr. Eazi was fantastic in concert! I also had never been to the tabernacle and I actually liked this venue very much, it had an old retro 1930s movie theater feel to it and I liked that. Koffee filled in as well along with Afro B. But I didn’t buy tickets for them, I bought tix for Burna Boy. I have been trying to catch a show of Burna Boy for quite a while and he repeatedly cancels for whatever reason. Not only did he cancel this time, he canceled another time in Atlanta that I had tickets for but that was at the onset of Covid. I also had tickets for Miami before Covid but he canceled there as well. I just bought tickets for him in Hollywood because I was going out there anyhow, wish me luck. Apparently I need it.

    Solid time

by BirthdayGirl on 10/15/19Tabernacle presented by Cricket Wireless - Atlanta

Mr. Eazi was Awesome! Was a great performer and put on a good set. However, Burna Boy and Teni were advertised and neither of them actually performed. There was also a lot of stalling from the time afro b performed to the time mr. Eazi performed. It was kind of a bummer, but I really enjoyed the vibes and music otherwise.

AFROBEATS - Great Performances - VERY Poorly Organized

by AVA ADORE on 10/15/19Tabernacle presented by Cricket Wireless - Atlanta

This was the first time I had attended a concert at the Tabernacle in Atlanta as we live in Tampa but were looking forward to seeing the line-up of BURNA BOY, MR. EAZI AND AFRO B. The drive for us to Atlanta is 7.5 HOURS and we took the organizer's word that what happens is going to happen due to the distance we had to drive. The venue is famous and I liked it but as I am handicapped, was dismayed that there was no real handicapped seating. However, the staff was very kind and put up a chair for my husband and myself up front in a cordoned off area so I could see everything comfortably. The warm-up act of AFRO B was very good and for a finale sang sang "Joanna". Next unbeknownst to us, KOFFEE appeared on stage and she had not been on the line-up nor had I ever heard any mention of her to be performing at this event but she was excellent and got the crowds really upbeat. However, she is a Jamaican reggae singer and the event was billed as an AFROBEATS concert which is different. Totally different vibe. However, she was very good. Next MR. EAZI came on stage (a personal favorite of mine) and his performance was EXCELLENT and got the crowds really going. I would highly recommend seeing him in concert. Finally, BURNA BOY was supposed to perform as the headliner. I don't know what happened but he didn't perform or even show. The lights came on and without any explanation the crowds were supposed to leave. Obviously, this was a huge disappointment, not satisfactorily explained and really would have made us reconsider the 7 hour drive up and the 7 hour drive home. I think it was wrong of the Organizers not to inform anybody that the main act would not show.
