About

MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK IN CONCERT:

Since bursting onto the scene in the early '00s with the rollicking single "The Future Freaks Me Out", pop punk rockers Motion City Soundtrack have continually impressed fans and critics alike with their shout-along hooks, punchy drums, and battling guitars. In concert frontman Justin Pierre belts out emo-tinged, tongue-in-cheek lyrics with his signature falsetto, infusing each song with raw emotion that's perfectly complemented by the band's infectious exuberance. Especially entertaining is keyboardist Jesse Johnson, who hops over his keys, cranks out the cowbell, and mans the moog synthesizer, which has become a staple of the band's sound. Known for bringing their “A” game whenever they hit the stage, Motion City Soundtrack fervently perform fan favorites like "Everything Is Alright”, "L.G. FUAD” and “My Favorite Accident” along with recent hits “Her Words Destroyed My Planet” and “True Romance" at their crowd-pleasing live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Former high school friends Joshua Cain and Justin Pierre formed Motion City Soundtrack in Minneapolis in 1997. After multiple lineup changes, the band finally solidified in 2002 with the addition of bassist Matt Taylor, drummer Tony Thaxton, and keyboardist Jesse Johnson. Later that year they dropped their debut album I Am The Movie, which was re-released a year later by Epitaph Records after the breakout success of single "The Future Freaks Me Out". Their sophomore album, 2005's Commit This To Memory, was produced by Blink 182 bassist Matt Hoppus and boasted the hit single "Everything is Alright". Over the next few years the band toured extensively, both as a headlining act and as an opener on Blink 182's 2009 world tour, where they brought venues like Aztec Theatre to capacity. They made their major label debut in 2010 with My Dinosaur Life -- an edgier, more experimental album released on Columbia Records -- but they returned to Epitaph for 2012's Go. With their highly anticipated Commit This To Memory 10 Year Anniversary Tour slated for 2015, ticket buyers are jumping at the chance to see these veteran indie rockers in concert.

AMAZING!! Best concert ever!! MCS is the best band ever! It was totally worth the wait.

  • The Swellers and Set Your Goals were amazing!

I went to see the swellers and set your goals and they were amazing! they were really nice too.

  • Motion City rocked the House...of Blues!

by thisisforreal on 1/29/10House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 4 out of 5

Motion City Soundtrack has always been known for a great live performance, and they did nothing but meet their standards and more in Cleveland on January 27. Following the mediocre performances of The Swellers, This Providence, and Set Your Goals, Motion City walked on stage at around 9pm. Without skipping a beat, lead singer Justin Pierre dove right into "Worker Bee," followed by I Am The Movie's "The Future Freaks Me Out." Motion City played songs from all four cd's, including several new songs. They put on a great performance, not to mention they are very funny on stage. I would see them again tomorrow.

  • MCS rocks again

by Eshrade on 1/28/10House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandRating: 5 out of 5

Motion City Soundtrack always puts on a good show, this one was no exception. Keyboardist gets crazy, lead singer sounds just like the CD which is not always the case with live shows!

  • Motion City Soundtrack was amazing!

by Anonymous on 1/27/10The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Motion City Soundtrack played one hell of a show. Lead singer is real cool, if you have the opportunity to see them I would definitely recommend seeing them. Most of the people at the show are cool people too!

  • by Anonymous on 1/26/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely one of the best concerts I've ever been too! Motion City is a Minnesota classic and I wouldn't have missed the show for the world. They're outstanding live and awesome guys. They put on an astounding show!

  • MCS @ First Ave.

by fleafly on 1/26/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

The show was awesome! This Providence was a good opening band but the others could have been better. Motion City Soundtrack was amazing!

  • The soundtrack was unbelievablely awesome

    by Dantheman209 on 1/26/10The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Although the openings bands were not that great, it was worth a thousands times that amount of crappy bands to see them. There was so much energy from them and the crowd. It was my favorite concert i have been too

  • Motion City Soundtrack were great.

by theBGplague on 1/26/10The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Great energy and they sounded as good as they do on record. There was non-stop crowd surfing and never-ending movement (jumping, moshpits, etc.). The opening bands were amazing, especially the Swellers. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.

This is my third time seeing Motion, and they never disappoint. Their new album came out and having only listened to the songs for a few days it was fun to see them perform the song, before i really learned the words. I can still picture them playing the songs while i listen to them on the cd. It wasnt my favorite show ive seen by them, as their show on halloween weekend was just small and more intimate, but i dont have any negative things to say about it.

  • MCS Rules!

by Jerksica on 1/26/10The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

Unfortunately, we missed The Swellers and most of This Providence. Set Your Goals was amazing, their energy was great!!! Motion City Soundtrack did a great job and they looked like they had a lot of fun. They played a lot of new stuff and the classic old songs!

  • MCS was Great!

by KGeezy on 1/26/10The Intersection - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

Motion City Soundtrack performed well, along with The Swellers, The Providence, and Sullivan Sky. Set Your Goals, however, did not perform well. I would have prefered the concet without them!

  • by Pookes on 1/25/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Motion City Soundtrack was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. It was honestly one of the best concerts i've ever attended! Justin is so entertaining to watch perform and if possible they sound better live than on record. I can't wait until they come back again!!

  • MCS rocks my face off!!

    by Wojo25 on 1/25/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing set, songs from old albums and new. Would see them anywhere, and First Ave is always amazing.

  • When do they go on?!?!?!

by AutumnRain on 1/25/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 3 out of 5

Three cover bands... too much! Stood around way too long inbetween bands! Concert started at 5... MCS didn't go on until 8:20! MCS... sounded awesome and played with great energy but I would never stand around for over three hours to hear them play again. And what was up with all of the high schoolers??

  • Motion City Soundtrack was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

by MotionLover on 1/24/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was great: small, and at the same time large enough to hold a crowd. the opening acts were good. Motion City Soundtrack was AMAZING!!!! they are really good live, and funny!!! the lead singer, Justin, would talk a little in between songs and he said really funny stuff. They are a very like-able band and looked like they were really enjoying themselves. The keyboardist even did a handstand on his keyboard and broke the stand for it, but went right along with it! it was great! :D I LOVED the show! it was unforgettable. They played songs from their new album, as well as songs off their previous albums.

  • Motion City Soundtrack = Epic Win.

by Iwreckhearts on 1/24/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Motion City Soundtrack was amazing. I would say it was the best show of my life, but then again, I am biased because they are my favorite band. I would definitely advise anyone who is even considering going to their show, to go. You will not be disappointed.

  • Motion City Soundtrack always rocks my world.

by kristinamae on 1/24/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing. From the witty crowd banter to the fantastic collection of songs from different albums, it seemed like the only time anything went wrong, was when Jesse Johnson broke his Moog stand from rocking out TOO hard. I love their music, and I am in love with their live shows. Always an experience.

  • Greatest performance ever!!!!

by Coopdaddio on 1/24/10First Avenue - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Justin Pierre and Motion City Soundtrack brought tears to my eyes. They played music from every album and tried to play a different show for all the people who have seen them countless times. The crowd really got into the show and you could tell they Motion City was having a jolly-good time. There was not a dull moment in their set!
