Moscow Ballet a waste of time and money

by Anonymous on 3/7/10Ferguson Center for the Arts Concert Hall - Newport News

The dancing was marginal in numerous instances and it became clear that the lesser dancers, particularly when they were seated onstage to the right and left of the principal dancers, looked bored and were talking amongst each other. Numerous slips by the dancers did not enhance the performance and the canned music sounded tinny.

    Swan Lake

by jgil on 3/7/10Ferguson Center for the Arts Concert Hall - Newport News

The dancing was excellent. The recorded music through the sound system came nowhere near Tchaikovsky beautiful music. It was disappointing.

    Where's the story?

by Loudermilk123 on 2/23/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

In my opinion, this production lacked the story behind the ballet. I have seen Coppelia before in London, and it seemed Moscow failed to really tell the story. It was beautiful, but hard to follow.

    A wonderful experience!

by Storeytwin on 2/23/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

The ballet was beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The atmosphere in the fantastic Fox Theater made it all the more enjoyable.

    Coppelia great but different

by slcrsc on 2/23/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

I thought the performance itself was great! But I was surprised at the story line. It seemed to have been slightly adjusted from the last time I saw this ballet. And a few things didn't even match the description in the program.

    The Gwinett Bolshoi

by Optics on 2/23/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

I got more electricity from the scarf I dragged across the seats at the Fox than I did from the Moscow Festival Ballet. Having seen the Kirov and its reincarnation, the Marinsky, and the Bolshoi, this was downscale dancing. The company performed like a minor league Moscow team. It seemed that the tape the company danced to was slightly downtempo, but I'll have to play the full version to be sure.

    A little disappointed.....

by atlantabubbie on 2/23/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

It was good, but not GREAT....... The music, although recorded, was lovely.... and the dancing lively. I was distracted by the "thumping of the toe shoes" by some of the dancers. The leads were excellent--- no "thumping" from them. But, then again, as they sing in "A Chorus Line": "Everything was beautiful at the Ballet...!"

    superb ballerina

by gardgirl32 on 2/23/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

This was pure simple classical ballet, the story line is irrelevant to the presentation of increasingly difficult and athletic movement/with grace and elegance. Choreography and the company were not as outstanding as the principal dancer- she was a gem, giving a beautiful strong and emotional performance. The sets were pleasant, the music quite nice for pre-recorded and the costuming was gorgeous. Enjoyed the evening.

    Moscow Review

by BalletLovers on 2/23/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - Atlanta

Loved this event! The artists truly create the illusion of effortless movement and perform at a level you would expect from a Russian company. Beautiful technique balanced with a wonderful artistic expression that brought this story to life. This is also a light, happy ballet that is perfect for children and anybody new to ballet. The only drawback is the recorded music vs, a live orchestra. Otherwise enjoy!

    Swan Lake Experience

by ROBMTOM on 2/22/10Asheville Civic Center - Asheville

i found the performance excellent and was surprised by the quality of the dancing. i have seen Swan Lake many times in my lifetime and this was very good performance. The problems were with the venue. The Thomas Wolf stage is not really big enough for a large dance company like the Moscow Festival Ballet. The dancers were ofter forced to contain their moves because of this. Lets' look forward to the new performing arts center where we can watch first class performances in an adequate spance with live music.

    Moscow Ballet Beautiful to Behold

by jjdogmom on 2/9/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

My granddaughter and I had a very memorable time at the Moscow Ballet's performance of Sleeping Beauty at the Balboa Theater. The dancing was stupendous. The costumes and the set designs were fantastic! The music was very beautiful and the volume was perfect. Even the snacks were good! The dancers were nice enough to sign my granddaughter's program afterward at the outer stage door. That is always one of the highlights of any performance for her (The program didn't have very much room for autographs though). The tickets were pricey but in the end it was worth every cent!

    Nice

by SJC31 on 2/8/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

This Ballet was great entertainment. I took my 5 year old niece, and I think she was a bit too young for this event, but it was a nice treat!

Prima ballerina swans off with honors

by Ballet2010 on 2/8/10Balboa Theatre - San Diego

The Moscow Festival Ballet company's Swan Lake of Friday 5 February in San Diego was a spectacular night of dance and drama. It seemed that the entire audience, ranging from venerable silver-haired patrons armed with opera glasses to best-bib-and-tuckered grade schoolers on booster seats, was entranced from curtain-up to final bows by the poise and passion of these fine performers. The Tchaikovsky score provided a palette of stirring music for the corps de ballet and soloists to shine in full-company and partnered dances which showcased astounding pirouettes, lifts and turning leaps while communicating narrative line and emotional interplay. The Puck-like Harlequin delighted the eye with breathtaking leaps in the court scenes and the prima ballerina captivated with her expressive grace throughout the performance.
