I had never seen MN live in concert, and was absolutely floored by her talent, her voice and her command of the stage. The format of the concert was innovative, all musical numbers linked by theatrical pieces that, if at times felt a bit long, provided variation, a sort of pagination and sometimes even humorous relief. At that, Monica Naranjo threw a curve on the audience. Some of her fans were just not ready for the slow, heartfelt and operatic material she delivered. That and the unexpected theater bits were enough to make some audience members unhappy. A lot of them were there for a high-energy event, with lots do dance tunes and old hits. They received a highly sophisticated, risky and successfully conceptual piece they were not intellectually prepared for. They voiced their opinion in extremely rude, distracting and in general, a terribly disconsiderate manner. In all of this, Ms. Naranjo demonstrated uncanny abilities to humor, control, seduce and entertain what felt like a bunch of raised-by-wolves uneducated savages, making it all the more clear what kind of artist she is. AMAZING.
