About

MOD SUN IN CONCERT:

Mod Sun is short for Modern Sunshine, which in turn is shorthand for Movement On Dreams Stand Under None. With a name like that it comes as no surprise that the rapper's extensive catalog is full of relentlessly sunny tracks that are even more blissful in concert. Influenced by artists as diverse as Kid Cudi, Bob Dylan, and Wu Tang Clan, he describes his music as "hippy hop" - a combination of hip hop music and hippie culture. He refers to his fan base as his "friend base", and keeps that sentiment strong in concert where he interacts with ticket buyers to keep them thoroughly engaged. With standout songs like "No Girlfriend" and "Never Quit" -- an ode to marijuana featuring Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker -- his live shows are happy affairs that suffuse audiences in positive vibes.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mod Sun, aka Dylan Smith, was raised between Minneapolis with his mother and Long Beach, CA with his father. He started playing drums at age 13 and by 16 was touring with pop punk and post-hardcore bands including Four Letter Lie and Scary Kids Scary Kids. In 2009 he underwent a hip hop metamorphosis and adopted the Mod Sun moniker, releasing his first mixtape Let Ya Teeth Show later that year. He followed up with several mixtapes and EPs over the next few years including fan favorites Blazed By The Bell in 2011 and Happy As F--k in 2012. His unique brand of electro-influenced hip hop has drawn collaborators like G-Eazy, Schoolboy Q, and Shwayze. In 2015 he released his long-awaited debut album Look Up on Rostrum Records, the indie label responsible for launching Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller.

    Amazing and Personal Experience

by Gwen883 on 3/9/15Brighton Music Hall - Boston

The opening bands were fantastic. They were so creative and interacted really well with the crowd by looking us in the eye and holding our hands and such. Mod himself was amazing too! he didn't interact with the crowd as much as the opening acts but he hung from the rafters and did a bunch of crazy things that made the show so exciting and fun!! the opening performers hung out by the merch table for pictures after the show which was awesome!! it was so wonderful to meet them and interact with them and tell them what a great job they did :) the venue was so small and intimate and it made for an EXCELLENT concert experience. I DEFINITELY recommend this artist and this venue.

Happy and all around good energy!!

    by Terra567 on 3/4/15Masquerade - Atlanta

Even during "ice watch" and what I imagen a fraction of the audience they were expecting all the performers were amazing. From the very first (nash I believe) to mod sun the room was alive and everyone was dancing. Definetly what I expected of a mod sun concert and more. Left with a smile on my face and one that will not wipe off. Pleaseeee come back to Atlanta!!

MOD SUN Shines Bright Despite Terrible Weather!

by Anonymous on 2/28/15Masquerade - Atlanta

The show went on despite a winter advisory, nasty weather, and poor driving conditions. Very few fans showed up, which was good for us in the audience but probably made it difficult for the performers to keep the energy up. However, ALL of them did a great job and the show really did ROCK. Nash was vital as the DJ getting the small crowd pumped up for almost 2 hours, and of course MOD SUN crushed it when he finally took the stage! All in all, a truly unforgettable night!!!

    Beautiful

    by Natalie727 on 2/25/15The Local 662 - St Petersburg

Mod was awesome. My only complaint is that the opening acts were a bit long, by the time Mod came on it was almost 11.
