Mizzou Tigers Football History

The University of Missouri put together its first football team in 1890, and the program enjoyed immediate success. They won a share of the Western Interstate University Football Association title in 1893,1894 and 1895. In 1907, Missouri joined what would later become the Big 12 Conference, and in the process formed heated rivalries with Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Iowa State.

Don Faurot led Missouri to two periods of success as Missouri's head football coach and athletic director, first from 1935-1942 and then from 1946-1956. They made multiple bowl games in that span. In 1972, the university honored Faurot by naming the playing surface at Memorial Stadium in his honor. Under Gary Pinkel, who coached the Tigers from 2001 to 2015, Missouri shared three Big 12 North titles and won two SEC East championships (2013 and 2014).

Missouri has had legends pass through the program, including Pro Football Hall of Famers tight end Kellen Winslow Sr. and cornerback Roger Wehrli.

The Tigers have won 15 conference titles, including 12 Big 8 championships.

    Arch Rivalry "unrivaled"

by BennGleck on 9/9/10Edward Jones Dome - St Louis

So sorry this is the last game . . . and so sorry so many Illini Fans didn't bother to come support their team. Though "the Ed" is one of the dreariest places I have ever been in, the game ROCKED. The tailgating before hand and bar-crawl afterward was AWESOME! St. Louis - you ROCK!

The event was awesome. The only complaint that I had was the seats were a little high up and at a awkward angle.

    Great Game!

by pinky1890 on 9/7/10Edward Jones Dome - St Louis

The last game in the Arch Rivalry series - this was an excellent match! Both teams had good play. The Edward Jones dome could use some upgraded seating (I was in the lower concourse and the seats were bleached and old). The dome itself is nice and held a lot of fans for both teams.

Great game but sadly the last one!

by buffettmo on 9/7/10Edward Jones Dome - St Louis

Great rivalry game between two very good football teams. Unfortunately, it will be the last time they meet in St. Louis which is a real shame. Nice college football atmoshere in the the downtown area with tailgating and parties going on before the game. Same type of atmosphere inside as well. Felt almost like I was in Columbia watching the Tigers! Sorry to see the game go, but thanks for one last great year!

Very good game!! Of course my team won!!! Mizzou had a slow first half, but kicked in gear the second half. Grabbert needs to stay in pocket longer!! Seems to eager to run when not needed. Thought play of defense was excellent. Really shut Illini down in second half. It seems to have taken longer to figure out the offense than it should have a whole half!! But they came out swinging in the 2 nd half. All in all a good game. Mizzou has some rough spots to smooth out though!!

Once again, a great day of football!

by 2brnt2 on 9/6/10Edward Jones Dome - St Louis

What a day!! Both teams had their moments, and made for a great time for all in attendance. It's really too bad that this was the last one. I hope that Mizzou can find another team willing to play at the Dome!!!

Parking - terrible and costly. Stadium sound system awful - couldn't hear pa announcer. The biggest problem - TOO much underage drinking! Seemed like all around stadium everyone walking around with 2 beers in hand . Also very little security both inside the stadium and outside directing traffic after the game was over. Have gone three years in a row and each year it gets worse - I'm glad this event is OVER!

    M-I-Z-Z-O-U

by tommyd08 on 9/6/10Edward Jones Dome - St Louis

Great game because Mizzou won the game, but the Edward Jones Dome is one of the worst places to watch a football game. I had zero idea of what the officials were calling on the field becase you could not hear them. Sports were ment to be played outside.
