About

"Leave your troubles outside. Here, life is beautiful, everyone is beautiful, the girls are beautiful, the boys are beautiful," a line from 'Cabaret.' It is on such philosophy that MIKA has built an unshakable career and catalogue.

Throughout his career, MIKA has crafted a world of gritty romance amidst the joy and playfulness of technicolored alternative pop. He's a renaissance artist of impeccable intention who's name has rightfully found its way alongside legendary acts such as Elton John, Freddie Mercury and Prince.

MIKA opened his pop career in 2007 with the defining single Grace Kelly, which went on to sell over 3 million copies worldwide and was the second British single ever to top the chart on downloads alone. It was #1 in the UK for 5 weeks and topped the charts in 6 other countries also. His debut album, Life In Cartoon Motion, has over 2.8 billion streams to date, selling over 8.3 million albums and racking up 12.8 million digital track sales. The album went straight to #1 in the UK and 11 other countries.

His second album The Boy Who Knew Too Much released in 2009 continued the trend, making it into the top ten in over 10 countries worldwide and containing the hits We Are Golden, Blame It On The Girls and Rain. In 2011 MIKA released the French language single Elle Me Dit which topped the French charts for 8 weeks in 2011 clocking up over 300,000 sales and becoming the second best selling single of the year in the process. The video featured legendary French actress Fanny Ardant and has over 75.5 million plays.

His third album The Origin of Love, was released to international acclaim in 2012 and includes the huge single Celebrate, featuring Pharrell Williams, and US smash Popular Song, which was later reworked as a duet with pop superstar Ariana Grande. The Popular Song duet video currently has over 205 million views.

MIKA then conquered the hearts of TV audiences across Europe, appearing as a judge on the X Factor Italy, a coach on The Voice France, both of which he is still involved with, and topping the charts in France with the release of "Boum Boum Boum".

2015 saw the release of Mika's 4th studio album, No Place In Heaven, to critical acclaim, created with long-time collaborator and Grammy nominated producer Gregg Wells and featured hit singles "Talk About You" , "Staring at the Sun" and the iconic video for "Last Party" shot by Peter Lindbergh.

His 2019 record, My Name Is Michael Holbrook, was a sort of turning point for MIKA, a healing process. "I had a sense of urgency to transform pain into something beautiful and more hopeful," says MIKA. After writing the album in home studios in Miami and Tuscany over the course of two years, MIKA went to Brussels to record with producers Marc Crew and Dan Priddy. Together they crafted soundscapes spanning different decades of pop tracking the entire album live using vintage synths and enlisting all star players from around the world.

In 2019 and 2020 he took to the road once more, bringing the magic across the UK, US, Europe and beyond. He was part-way through his eastern leg when the pandemic struck and the world changed. But he still managed to keep busy during lockdown. Heartbroken by the devastating explosion in Beirut, Lebanon in MIKA decided to honour his Lebanese heritage by organising an online charity concert in support of the people of Lebanon and the victims of the blast. But this was no ordinary online concert. 'I Love Beirut' featured guest performances from around the world including Kylie Minogue in London, Rufus Wainwright in LA, Mashrou Leila in NYC, Laura Pausini in Rome and Dana Paola in Mexico City, as well as sending a small crew to Beirut itself to meet people on the ground. The result was a truly breathtaking film with moments of joy and sadness, hope and resilience. Fans tuned in from a record-breaking 106 countries around the globe and the concert raised an impressive total of over €1m for Save The Children Lebanon and The Lebanese Red Cross.

After the strangest 18+ months in living memory, MIKA looks forward to being back on the stage in 2022. Through the attitude, energy and movement of MIKA's studied pop performance he provokes this sense of magic. "It's the sort of dangerous energy where anything is possible," he says.

MIKA has also worked with world renowned composer and conductor Simon Leclerc to perform orchestral versions of his many hits, first with L'Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal in Quebec, followed by a special televised performance at the Teatro Sociale in Como, Italy and most recently with two sold out shows in October 2021 at the Philharmonie de Paris in France.

MIKA has been nominated for and won awards from the Brits, the Grammys, the Ivor Novellos, Capital Radio, Q magazine, The NRJs, The World Music Awards, BT and Vodaphone, Virgin Media and MTV's Europe, Asia, Australia and Japan, amongst others. He is also the recipient of the prestigious French award "Chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres". MIKA has now sold over 10 million albums globally and has Gold or Platinum awards in an impressive 32 countries worldwide.

"We don't need perfection. We need character, we need emotion. To feel free to express yourself," says MIKA. "Express yourself, you won't be judged here."

    Horrible Acoustics at Kings theater

by Bika on 4/15/22Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

The sound engineer should get fired. The acoustics were completely off, you could barely hear Mika sing because the instruments were overpowering his voice. The Kings Theater is an acoustic venue, not a disco. The song quality overall was horrible. I love Mika and was looking forward to the show but I left disappointed because someone messed up on the quality sound check. Not Mika’s fault.

    Mika, literally showstopping

by Trujas on 4/15/22Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

We went as a couple to watch the Mika concert as the show in Brooklyn had been rescheduled. Everything was perfect: King's theatre has its name perfectly fit Mika's performance which was simply amazing. If you have a chance to see Mika's rite of spring tour, please do it even if you are not a Mika fan (just as me and my girlfriend).

    An Intimate Evening with Mika

by SDagogo on 7/5/15Belly Up Tavern - Solana Beach

Grace Kelly Toy Boy Lollipop Blue Eyes Billy Brown Popular “I love you, Mika!” “I know you do and I can hear every word you sing.” She covers face in shock. “It’s a very good thing you sing in tune. It’s wonderful….are you crying? Oh, please don’t cry! You can cry because you’re happy but if you’re crying because I’ve embarrassed you, I’ll feel wretched!” She gives him a ‘thumbs up’, he reciprocates. “This next song is for you,” he smiles. Drunk Only Lonely Man Underwater Mika tells us that when he was little his sister took ballet lessons. Not wanting to be left out of the fun, he also wanted to take ballet. His parents would not allow it. Instead, they put his in tap dancing. He once tapped to the song NEW YORK, NEW YORK, and now when he hears the song, he is filled with anxiety. But tap had a big impact on him and that is why you hear the clicking/tapping of spoons on his albums. His band will be simulating tap shoes with drumsticks. He then introduces the next song as “The Tap Dance Song aka Stuck in the Middle”. “This next song is in French.” A small group of people cheer. “Vous sont le français?” They answer in French. “Well, you’d better be careful. USA, USA, you know,” he jokes, “Does anyone watch the show NASHVILLE? Ok, well, I do. And it seems like in every episode, someone has a star moment. Like, there’ll be a waitress cleaning up and all of a sudden a spotlight appears and she sings a torch song. It’s so silly. But I think it’s be amazing for it to happen in real life! So does anyone know the English lyrics to this song?” Someone volunteers. “you know the lyrics?” “no” “well, you have to know the lyrics, dear. Ok, then I’ll have to do it in French.” Cheer as “Elle Me Dit” begins. Hia Leah (I Need You, That’s All) Origin Of Love Big Girls (You are Beautiful) Century Man Relax Celebrate Stardust Happy Ending Mika holds his finger to his lips, for the crowd to be silent. He leaves the piano and goes center stage. He begins singing acapella and then invites us to join him. ENCORE Mika tells us that this song he wrote when he was 16. It is one of the first songs he completed in the studio and felt as though it was fully realized track. Over My Shoulder

    MIKA at The Belasco

by SDagogo on 6/27/15Belasco Theater - Los Angeles

Mika walks onstage wearing: Dark blue suit with white stars on his shoulder, cascading down his chest and across his waist. Dazzling blue crystal coated loafers -Toy Boy -Grace Kelly -Popular -Blue Eyes -Talk about you He tells us, “The only shows my mother insists on being at are those in America and Lebanon.” He goes on to say that while they were rehearsing at soundcheck, his mother left to get food. Hours later, she finally returned with “boxes and boxes of food from HOOTERS.” He laughs and shakes his head. “Unfortunately, the ladies at the restaurant could not attend tonight…because they are otherwise engaged chatting with my mother. So this song is for all the girls at HOOTERS.” -Big Girls (You Are Beautiful) -Underwater He asks for the stage lights to be turned off. “It’s easier to reveal yourself in the dark. I’m going to close my eyes so I won’t be able to tell YOU do, but it’s better this way. Trust me.” He continues singing the song and asks the audience to join. -Good Guys -Relax (during the song, he jumps so high and bends his legs so far back, that his heels touch his back. Spoiler Alert: he sticks the landing) -Origin of love He sits at his piano. -Good Wife -Billy Brown He gets up from the piano and it is now that he realizes, “I’ve split my pants!” Someone in the audience encourages his to lose the pants all-together. “Take it off! It’s ok!” Mika sarcastically chuckles. -Last Party -Happy Ending -We are Golden ENCORE: “This one is en francais. Danse. Dance. That’s all you need to know.” -Elle Me Dit A fan hands him a green cap that MIKA spells in bright red patches. He takes it and wears it as he sings. After the song is done, he walks over to the person and offers the cap back. “No? It’s for me?” Mika clutches the cap to his chest and bows in gratitude. He dons the cap and poses to applause. -Love Today
