Midori played each sonata of this varied program with its own character and yet imbued with her own style, from the complex Beethoven Sonata in A minor, to the introspective, then playful and fiery Ravel Sonata , the more gentle and logical Bach, and the moody and brilliant Saint-Saens. Even in the most difficult pyrotechnical passages (played technically flawlessly to my ears, those of a novice violinist), there appeared emotional intent and direction. I personally sense a technical smoothness, and grace in Midori's playing that is very distinguishing. I thought Ozgur Aydin was great in his own right, letting Midori shine while complimenting, embellishing, and contrasting her playing satisfyingly and appropriately.
