Murphy Center is a second class facility
by WC83 on 11/26/09Murphy Center - MurfreesboroIt's been a long time since I attended an event at Murphy Center (I saw Magic Johnson and Michigan State in the 1979 NCAAs there and Springsteen in the 80's). I guess what was an adequate venue 25 years ago just doesn't meet modern standards. I don't think I've ever been more uncomfortable at a basketball game. Our seats were on the first row of the upper section. Well, between the guard rail, the people seated in handicapped seating folding chairs right in front of us, and the general foot traffic, I had to watch most of the game on the video screen. If I scrunched down and leaned to the side, I could see between the railing and the people, but I couldn't hold that contorted position for the entire game. Entry into parking was disorganized and chaotic, with no sign of traffic control anywhere. Tried to go to the concession stand at halftime, but didn't want to stand in a line 30 people deep. If MTSU aspires to be a first class university, a serious upgrade to this facility is needed.
