It's been a long time since I attended an event at Murphy Center (I saw Magic Johnson and Michigan State in the 1979 NCAAs there and Springsteen in the 80's). I guess what was an adequate venue 25 years ago just doesn't meet modern standards. I don't think I've ever been more uncomfortable at a basketball game. Our seats were on the first row of the upper section. Well, between the guard rail, the people seated in handicapped seating folding chairs right in front of us, and the general foot traffic, I had to watch most of the game on the video screen. If I scrunched down and leaned to the side, I could see between the railing and the people, but I couldn't hold that contorted position for the entire game. Entry into parking was disorganized and chaotic, with no sign of traffic control anywhere. Tried to go to the concession stand at halftime, but didn't want to stand in a line 30 people deep. If MTSU aspires to be a first class university, a serious upgrade to this facility is needed.
The game itself, the cheerleaders, the dancers, the gym...all good. The parking...terrible. When the venue is hosting an event of this magnitude, more accomodations for parking need to be made via signage, more handicapped parking, more people directing parking.
Had good seats on the bottom row of the bleachers until. We were seated in section F row 23 which were good seats. Then just minutes before the game started there were a row of chairs in front of us that a big family came in and sat in. We could not even see the gym floor. We had to watch the first half of the game from the tv screens. Then at the half we were able to move to better seats so we could see the rest of the game. Not a very good night. The seats we had should have never been sold to anyone.
