MICKEY AVALON IN CONCERT:

Bad-boy Hollywood rapper Mickey Avalon has become an underground hip hop mainstay over the past decade thanks to his catchy throwback sound, raunchy live performances, and raw lyrics about life in the fast lane. At his live shows Avalon is pure magnetism, gyrating around the stage shirtless as he delivers his rapid-fire rhymes with a theatrical mix of blustering swagger and faux-coquettishness.  Avalon's rapping skillfully combines deeply personal stories with bawdy double entendre, and the result is a dynamic live show that's both full of emotion and funny as hell. In 2015 Avalon reunited with longtime collaborator Dirt Nasty for a highly anticipated EP and tour, and he continues to light up the stage with his bounce-worthy beats, clever lyrics, and colorful live antics.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Los Angeles-born Mickey Avalon grew up surrounded by drugs and substance abuse -- his mother was a marijuana dealer and his father a heroin addict. Before long Avalon was breaking the law to finance his own addiction, but after his sister died of an overdose he resolved to clean up his act and get serious about music. In the early '00s he and rapper Dirt Nasty (Simon Rex) formed the group The Dyslexic Speedreaders, gaining an underground fanbase with their 2004 debut album Catching Up to Wilt. A few years later Avalon signed to Interscope and released his 2006 self-titled solo debut album, which earned praise from critics for its retro sound and unflinching account of his struggles with addiction. Avalon's off-the-wall performances of party anthems like "Jane Fonda" and "Mr. Right" earned him a loyal following, and in 2009 Stephen Marley tapped him as an opener for his national Blazed & Confused Tour. Following a label conflict in the early '10s Avalon was released from his Interscope contract and in 2012 he released his long-awaited sophomore album Loaded on Suburban Noize Records. Since then he has remained a prominent hip hop agitator, dropping hard-hitting releases like 2013's I Get Even EP and slaying on tour in 2015-16 with longtime collaborator Dirt Nasty.

    Mickey Avalon was lackluster

by CrazyKittyLady on 8/20/15Masquerade - Atlanta

I expected way more out of Mickey Avalon. He went from one song to the next, as if trying to hurry through the concert. He did not interact with the crowd. The exciting moment was him punching a drunk fan, at his after concert meet and greet.

    Still kills it

Mickey is a great performer who always delivers a fun show. He gets the crown going from the second his Chucks hits the stage.

This show rocked my socks off!!

by Kinnalone on 6/27/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

I usually listen to r&b and pop so I was a little hesitant when you gf invited me out for her bachelorette party, and chose to see this show. I walked in and the people was so hyphy and live. I walked into the mini crowd and was able to dance and feed off everyone's energy. It was so crowded, I loved every bit of it. I would definitely go again!

    Nickatina killed!

by Anonymous on 1/10/11Firestone Live - Orlando

Andre Nickatina stoled the show! He delivered an unreal performance. No offense to Mickey Avalon, but Nicky should have been the opening act . Smoov E was also very entertaining.

    Mickey Avalon

by AmandaKaryn on 1/9/11Firestone Live - Orlando

The show was great, once he got on the stage, which wasn't until almost 1am, when doors were at 8pm. The openers didn't even go on until 10, and they were not worth even hearing. Mickey played most of his s/t album, including favorites My Dick and Mr. Right. He also played some of his new material.

i really hated the opening bands

by daaang on 8/29/10Showbox at the Market - Seattle

We got there at 8 and all of the opening bands sucked. Mickey didn't get onstage until around 11:30 and then played maybe a little more than an hour. Mickey was amazing though when he finally did get onstage!

The oddest show that I have ever seen!!! Mickey Avalon seemed so intoxicated that he really didn't even know what was going on. We left before the show was over.

Mickey Avalon didn't come out untill 1130 and the crowd kept getting a little out of control but he was so amazing that it made up for the whole night! The dancers just added to the whole show too! I would absolutely go back!!!!

mickey avalon was better at Rumrunners

by sigrita on 1/19/10William a Egan Civic and Convention Center - Anchorage

Are you kidding me? The place sucked, the concert sucked too. He forgot lyrics to his own songs, and didn't even play his most famous song. The concert was exactly the same like the one he did the night before at a bar called Rumrunners, and there were hardly any people at that one, and you could stand super close. Little drunk kids running around everywhere, this concert was a bust.

    Could've stayed home...

by 907lady on 1/10/10William a Egan Civic and Convention Center - Anchorage

Mickey was good, but I was bummed he didn't sing So Rich, So Pretty. It was pretty lame that the tickets said the show started at 7:30, but there were a couple bands before him and he didn't start until 9:30ish. There were lots of teenagers there too...what kind of parent would let their child go to a Mickey Avalon concert? It should have been an 18 and over show and it would've been nice to have the alcohol being served in the same room as the performances.

    Mickey Avalon

by Anonymous on 1/10/10William a Egan Civic and Convention Center - Anchorage

Terrible, He was so drugged out of his mind he couldn't even remember his own songs. Kept messing up the words and starting over, then even gave up on a song.
