Super Show!
by GypsyGirl on 12/25/21The Corbin Arena - CorbinMichael & Darci were fantastic! I especially enjoyed how balanced they were- neither one had more exposure than the other. They each had their solo time & also did duets. Generations both represented very well. But no “Little Drummer Boy”? I think Oscar could have tackled that… maybe? Or just Darci herself! The bandmates are equally talented. Professional players make great music! Darci came out a bundle of energy but after the intermission she seemed almost exhausted. She seemed a bit lackluster. Hope she was/is ok! She was/is just remarkable & my mom loved her!! Highlight of the year after her stroke. (Thank you, Darci! She so wanted to meet you!) Only major show detraction was the “sales pitch” to support the children charity. Yes, it’s a noble cause BUT we weren’t there for an infomercial to support international kids when our own need the same. We are at a concert for entertainment & “escape”! Pitchman was long-winded & not very good, considering it’s what he does. It turned off a lot of people around us. We aren’t unsympathetic but it just wasn’t the place for a sales pitch. It REALLY brought down the momentum of the show. I was surprised how many people left then & during the short intermission! Maybe that contributed? Per the arena, it was my 1st time there. The “too big purse” rule was ridiculous as baby diaper bags were just fine! I had my handicapped mom with me & the purse I was using held extra items I may have needed for her, plus my glasses, phone & wallet- but I had to take it back to the car. And no, it wasn’t THAT large of a purse, either- not even a backpack or a bag. Ridiculous. The seat rows could have had *just a tad* more leg room for those of us who are taller but it was MUCH better than Rupp in Lexington!!!! I felt bad for the kids behind us as I just don’t know how THEY could see the performances “in person”- not the screen- since everyone is at the same level. The big screen was great, though. Aisles were fairly wide. Staff weren’t overly friendly but not quite rude. They all just seemed aloof. Pros: free parking!! Thank you!!! And concession stand prices were very much appreciated! Best, low & reasonable prices I think I have ever seen at any event. The little things mean a lot- they either add up to create, or detract from, a great event & experience. Sound system was good- no problems. Parking lot lighted well enough- I felt safe going back & forth to my car. Suggestions: Maybe more space available for wheelchairs. Nix the big purse rule. A couple more signs to let you know where to go & that you ARE at the arena. First timers in rain at night… :-)
