Miami Hurricanes at Watsco Center
Coral Gables, Florida, is home to one of the most competitive teams in ACC men's basketball. The Hurricanes play out of the on-campus Watsco Center, which first opened in 2003 as the University of Miami Convocation Center, and currently seats 8,000. They are coached by Jim Larrañaga, who previously led George Mason University to the 2006 Final Four before joining the Hurricanes in 2011.
Miami Hurricanes Men's Basketball History
Miami Hurricanes basketball has several distinct beginnings. The original University of Miami basketball team first took the court in 1926, but went dormant for the 1929-30 season, from 1932 to 1938, and from 1942 to 1945. In 1960, the Hurricanes made an incredible run to the Elite Eight under coach Bruce Hale. The legendary Rick Barry starred for the Hurricanes in the mid '60s, before a Hall of Fame career in the pros, and also before marrying coach Hale's daughter. However, the Hurricanes lacked a permanent on-campus arena, and had to play at the Miami Beach Convention Center 15 miles away. This contributed to low attendance and, in 1971, the "temporary" discontinuation of the men's program.
In 1983, a drive began to raise funds to restart the program, and on November 22, 1985, Miami defeated The Citadel 85-77 for their first victory in 14 years, en route to a .500 record against a tough schedule. Miami's second act included an initial three seasons at the James L. Knight Center, which was more of an auditorium than a field house, followed by a decade and a half at Miami Arena, before their first on-campus facility opened in 2003. In coach Leonard Hamilton's second season, in 1991, Miami joined the Big East, winning their first regular-season conference title during Hamilton's final season in 2000. In 2013, the Hurricanes won both the ACC regular season and conference tournament championship, on their way to a Sweet 16 appearance behind the play of sophomore guard and Lute Olson National Player of the Year recipient Shane Larkin.

Thank you for making employee day available to the staff and their families. It was wonderful.
great comeback for the canes to win the game!!!!!!
THE GAME WAS EXCITING AND GREAT. IT MADE MY NIGHT ENJOYABLE THE FACT THAT WE WON. GAME WAS WELL PLAYED. THANKS MUCH
The team played great and deserve all the support they can get. I'll definitely be at the next game! GO CANES!!
My husband and I attended the UM Men's basketball gave vs. Jacksonville. What a great evening. The tickets were incredibly reasonable and parking is quite easy. Our tickets were $17 each and we had great seats. It really is a "fun for the whole family" event. Quite entertaining. I would totally recommend this for a nice night out. Thanks UM Basketball for doing such a great job.
DEQUAN JONES AND RION BROWN DEFF DID THEIR THING IN LEADING THE HURRICANES TO A DEFEAT OVER BARRY BUCS. AMAZING YET SAD SEASON OPENER.
Great game, overall the CANES ruled! I hope the rest of the season is twice as good. Couldn't have asked for better.
great game. hopefully we can keep this up throughout the season.
great atmosphere, surprised game wasn't all the way sold out between two rivals no matter what the records indicate. Still shows football is still king by a mile. Seats were great in the 106 section as you can sit anwyhere; seat indication on the ticket is irrelevant. My gripe only is the prices of the refreshments/food, etc. Papa Johns small personal pizza, bottle of water, and soda, $16.50?? YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING. Next time I'll bring more snacks from home.
Miami versus Florida State, its doesn't get any better than that, and game was classic, going down to last shot to determine who wins.
What it should be. Affordable, up close, great game it was tight all the way, even if we lost.
So much fun. Went with my hubby and my son, and we had a ball watching the CANES win over VA Tech. Thanks UM!
This was a fascinating game with a lot of tension. Great cheer leading too.
Had a great time with some friends especially because we won.
The seats were great and the game was a blast! Wonderful family fun. :)
Awesome event! Great crowd! Great Team spirit! I would highly recommend it!
Fun crowd, great seeing the team win. Band, cheerleaders, and a happy crowd.
The Hurricanes played! Nice family outing. I think Saturdays are better days for games.
I am very proud of UM Basketball team. Keep up the good work!
