About

METRONOMY IN CONCERT:

Blending slick, danceable funk and some of the brightest pop hooks to come out of Britain since the Beatles, Metronomy have found a well-deserved home with fans of floor-filling indie music. Known for their intricate choreography and creative use of stage lighting, the band never fails to deliver a nonstop dance party at their beloved live shows, bringing venues like Summit (Denver) to capacity. With a highly anticipated album dropping in early 2014, Metronomy will be bringing more energy than ever to their North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hailing from Devon, England, Metronomy got its start in 1999 as the solo project of composer and singer Joseph Mount. After establishing a reputation with his remixes and energetic live shows, Mount assembled a backing band around the project, ultimately keeping the new members on full time. 2006 full-length debut Pip Paine (Pay the £5000 You Owe) led to even more remix work as the band prepped 2008 sophomore album Nights Out, their first to land on the UK Albums Chart. With the release of The English Riviera in 2011, the band received their best reviews yet, wowing critics with the perfect balance of experimentation and pop savvy experimental yet accessible pop savvy and setting expectations sky high for the 2014 release of fourth album Love Letters.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Having already seen Metronomy once, I was prepared for a great show, but they far and away surpassed their previous performance. They are a true band. Catch them if you can."

"The musicianship was excellent: the tinkering on their vintage keyboards, switching between guitars, and interplay of vocals only augmented Joseph Mount's genius songwriting."

"Metronomy was sharp, charismatic, tight and dancey. The lead singer was witty and on his game, the other band members were polished and full of funky energy."

This was one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I've seen a LOT

Having already seen Metronomy once, I was prepared for a great show, but they far and away surpassed their previous performance. It was truly one of the best small-venue live shows I've ever seen. They are a true band. Catch them if you can.

    Metron-oh-my!

by Flowski on 3/29/12Masquerade - Atlanta

The Hell portion of the Masquerade is acoustically terrible. The speakers are mounted too low and too far out. The bass and kick drum were mixed too loud. The artificial fog made it hard to see. We moved to get a better view by standing to the side area, which was much better. Our new vantage point allowed us to see Metronomy really working their instruments. The musicianship was excellent: the tinkering on their vintage keyboards, switching between guitars, and interplay of vocals only augmented Joseph Mount's genius songwriting. I was super-impressed with Metronomy. Thanks Metronomy for making the best out of an inferior venue! The five-star rating is all you. Too bad it wasn't in the Heaven portion of the Masquerade.

    What a show!

by joeyflash on 3/27/12Masquerade - Atlanta

Metronomy delivered the goods on their first show in the US for 2012. The Masquerade is not my favorite Atlanta venue, but at least the sound is always consistent. Advertised opening act Friends did not play, however the Masquerade scrounged up a very uninteresting band to open the show - they plodded through a seemingly never-ending set of Creedesque slow jams, finally turning over the stage to Metronomy.

    Go see Metronomy

by Anonymous on 10/31/11Brighton Music Hall - Boston

I first heard about Metronomy from listening to BBC 6 Music, on Marc Riley's show and was keen to see them. Metronomy are an absolutely incredible live band. They have great stage presence and sounded as good live (if not better) as they do on CD. Hoping Metronomy return to Boston again soon...I'll be there.

    Not bad, not great.

by brightonmusichall on 10/27/11Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Overall a decent show and I'm glad I went. Worth the $15 price of admission. Not the best live show, but not bad. They could work on their performance a bit more, and the sound mixing could have been better.

Amazing doesn't even begin to describe their show! I had been waiting for Metronomy to play in Boston for years, but the wait was definitely worth it. Possibly the best show I've been to, ever!

by pisces31180 on 10/26/11Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Metronomy was sharp, charismatic, tight and dancey. This was my favorite show of the year. THe lead singer was witty and on his game, the other band members were polished and full of funky energy. The female drummer was beautiful and sang as well-stellar all around and I can't wait to see them again! Jeff

    One of the Best

by ActuallyAllie on 10/26/11Brighton Music Hall - Boston

I couldn't stop smiling after Metronomy's concert. Even though I'm a new fan, I couldn't help falling in love with them when they performed on stage. Listening to the English Riviera on my iTunes, I wasn't sure whether they would translate well live. Well, they certainly did! I stood on the right side of the stage, and I had a perfect view of bassist Gbenga Adeleka, who has impeccable style and owned the stage, guitarist and keyboardist Joseph Mount, whose friendliness to the Boston residents was much appreciated, and keyboardist and saxophonist Oscar Cash, who pivoted around the stage and made each song his own. I couldn't see the drummer, but I know from what I heard that Anna Prior is amazing. The guys that I was with labeled her as "the sexiest drummer," so there you have it . I for one developed a small crush on Oscar Cash, but that's just me! Each member of the band had what looked like a surgical mask on the breast plate, and when they came out, I wondered what they were for. After the first song started, it became apparent: these masks lighted up with the beat! Whoever's idea this was, thank you. Perfect for getting the audience's attention and inciting more people to move with the beat. I was grooving along like any good fan thanks to the beats of Anna Prior and these light-up surgical masks. Best of all, though, was that the band was willing to speak to anyone after the show, if you were willing to wait for them. Only Joseph Mount and Oscar Cash came out, but that was all I needed to transform into a giggly fan-girl. Luckily my friend Alex kept up the conversation, while I just peeped out, "My name's Allie!" They were even friendly enough to let us take a picture with them. Overall, Metronomy's performance was one that leaves you breathless, and excited to renew your passion for them ASAP. In my opinion, that's what every great concert should do.

    Fantastic show

by Tedison on 10/25/11Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Class Actress, the opener, was quite good--never heard before but I'd listen again. Metronomy--absolutely fantastic. The sound was great (not too loud at all but plenty of punch), the crowd was really receptive and warm. Metronomy really gave it 110% last night. They came out afterward to sign things, chat with fans, and take pictures. All in all, one of the best concerts I've been to in a long time.

    Metronomy yes, Venue, meh

by gahna on 10/22/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The venue wasn't the best, but other than that, Metronomy was absolutely amazing. The openers, save for Caged Animals, were horrible, but Metronomy is a great live band and their set was full of songs from Nights Out and The English Riveria. It was an unforgettable night, if you have the chance, see Metronomy live!!!

sound way too loud at Music Hall of Williamsburg

by metronomyfan on 10/22/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Metronomy and one of the three opening acts (Class Actress) had great performances: extremely precise but still propulsive and fun. The problem was that the sound was just deafening. I go to a lot of rock shows in New York at venues like Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall, Terminal 5 and The Bell House in Brooklyn. All of these feature extremely loud music, but it's very seldom uncomfortably so, as it was at Music Hall of WIlliamsburg. I saw Super Furry Animals there a few years ago, and the problem was the same; though for a !!! show about a year ago, the volume was fine. I am a big fan of the rush of listening to booming speakers in a large, crowded room. But for this show - even though I wore earplugs the whole time - my ears were ringing for the next 24 hours. Far from ideal.
