METALLICA ON TOUR

Metal heads everywhere know nothing compares to the hardcore intensity of seeing Metallica tear through monumental epics like “Enter Sandman”, “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, and “Master of Puppets” in concert. Headbanging ticket buyers rock hard to countless classics as frontman James Hetfield growls through the band's thunderous throwdowns and brutal ballads. Kirk Hammett’s sick guitar shredding and Lars Ulrich’s furious drum fills complete the sonic assault, stunning listeners with each hard-hitting breakdown and pulse-pounding riff. Still serving up the same brilliant savagery that made them thrash metal superstars in the first place, Metallica continue to unleash the metal mayhem whenever they tour.

METALLICA IN CONCERT

James Hetfield (vocals/guitar) met Lars Ulrich (drums) when the latter placed an ad in a Los Angeles-based paper in 1981. After some initial jamming, the two conscripted Dave Mustaine (guitar/vocals) and Cliff Barton (bass) the following year to play their first pioneering thrash metal shows. Mustaine was ejected for drug use prior to recording sessions for the group’s first album, so the band brought in former Exodus guitarist Kirk Hammett to complete the sessions for their 1983 debut Kill ‘Em All. Just as their star was rising, bassist Barton died in a tragic bus accident in Sweden in 1986. Despite the shock, the group felt Barton would want them to carry on, and they found a worthy replacement in Jason Newsted. Soon after, they achieved mainstream success with the 1991 release of their self-titled album, also known as “The Black Album”. The record eventually sold over 16 million copies thanks to the popularity of massive hits like “Enter Sandman”, “The Unforgiven”, and “Nothing Else Matters”. After maintaining their success through the ‘90s, Newsted left the group to focus on side projects. Robert Trujillo (Suicidal Tendencies, Ozzy Osbourne) was brought in as a replacement in time to tour for the band’s 2003 Grammy-winning album St. Anger. The revitalized quartet continues to shred at their electrifying shows on tour, where headbangers worldwide convene for unparalleled rocking.

    Metallica? Metallica who!

by rainbojenn69 on 9/12/09Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

Not bad, not bad. They should rock the San Rafael Civic Center ALL THE TIME! Much more exciting than the Nutcracker I see there every Christmas. Very small and intimate venue.

    Metallica comes home

by Kylavo on 9/12/09Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

Seing Metallica in thier own backyard was fabulous. The fact that it was a benefit event for a museum, was incredible and a tax right off (Bonus). The small venue (2000 seats) made for a very intimate feel. This was definitely one of my favorite Metallica shows.

    Metallica Rocked

by Sceeter on 9/12/09Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

Metallica`s concert was so kick ass. Every Metallica concert I have been too has been great but this one was the BEST. They were playing in their hometown for the first time and they did not disapoint anyone in the crowd.

    Metallica in small venue... AWESOME!

by phillyflyer58 on 9/12/09Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

The show last night at the Marin Vets Memorial Auditorium was just amazing. It was music and lights only - no pyrotechnics. The music was all that was needed - it spoke for itself. The boys seemed to enjoy playing in their own backyard for the first time ever and the crowd was pumped (as usual) joining them in the choruses of Creeping Death, Battery, Master of Puppets and Seek & Destroy. I give the show 5 stars due to the venue and the intimacy that went with it. To me, the only takeaways were the show's length (less than the standard 1:50 - 2:10) and the acoustics of the hall. That said, nothing's perfect and I'd still give it the highest recommendation. Those who didn't go missed one great display of musical showmanship!

DANK. Creeping Death was pretty explosive when they opened with it. Glad they played Fade to Black.

    my thoughts

by MetallicaRocks on 9/12/09Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

I was very pleased to have Metallica play here at home! It was for a awesome cause and I give many thanks for that! My only disapointment was...they didn't play long enough! Especially since I had to pay so much for my tickets, I was hoping for more. A little disapointing. It could have been louder too! The vibe wasn't as good like it is at regular concerts for 1/2 the price of this concert. Still love them though! They could have given their hometown more than they did.

With only 2000 people in the auditorium, Metallica still performed at the top of their game.

Incredible to see them in such a small venue, they were so tight in their playing and you could tell it was a special night for them to be playing in their own "backyard" Awesome set list I will see this band when ever they come to town-PERIOD!!!

    Best ever!

by RenaissanceMan72 on 9/12/09Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

They continue to improve their craft! Polishing up their early work and delivering stunning new work... they are just incredible... An entertaining, meaningful, and memorable show. One of my buddies said it was the best out of 23 Metallica shows he's seen!!! To be part of a show like this is to celebrate life, camaraderie with your fellow man, explore their insights and passion, etc. etc. etc... Damn they're good.. Watching everyone else PUMPED UP is a real feeling of unity and cheer!!! Bottom line: This band explores the "celebration of life" like no other, and being a part of it is AWESOME.

    Marin was Rocked by Metallica

by millvallison on 9/12/09Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

Yes the ticket price was steep & I had some 'spainin' to do when the MC bill came, but my kids had a blast and Metallica was clearly having a good night themselves. And all for a great cause. Not the museum/memorabilia so much as a youth center for cultivating the next generations of Marin Rockers. Watching my 9 year old daughter rock out was worth it.
