I've been a MELVINS fan since 1997 or so, and seen them in numerous iterations. I've got to say that the current trio brings all the wild precision power that MELVINS have always had live, complete with huge dynamic shifts and fantastic showmanship. Steve McDonald's addition on bass to the lineup has injected a level of fun to the mix, that has taken the group's shows to a whole 'nother level, tho. His fantastically funky bass contributions, cheeky kicks and rock star poses for the fans has taken this band into the superlative category. (It's quite possible they were equally excellent with the Big Business rhythm section in the band, but MELVINS have never been so FUN to see live as this current lineup). If they're coming to your town, go see them! They just may be the best heavy rock show on the road today! Ps. Props to Irving Plaza's security for being really really nice, and super attentive and helpful with a my dropped phone over the barrier - they put it back in my hands almost before I realized I'd lost it!
Venue was very cool, small so you could get up close, Melvins rocked the place so hard, I was awe struck like looking into the face of gods.
Great show- King Buzzo was ominous, bassist is a true showman and drummer is a thunderous beast. Enjoyed opening acts who ALL brought it especially the ferocious lady drummer. Can’t wait to see it all again this Sept in NYC !
