One of the best vocal artists of our time!

by Anonymous on 6/6/10Keswick Theatre - Glenside

An amazing vocalist with a talented trio of fellow musicians, this show was truly a delight. Melody Gardot's rich voice made me feel that she is truly the Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald of our time, connecting me to the joy and wonder audiences from that era must have felt being in the presence of such musical talent.

Melody Gardot is an up and coming star!!!!

by macmaster on 6/4/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Melody Gardot's show at the Wilbur Thearter in Boston (6/2/10) was a night to remember. I am convinced that she will be a mainstream star. I have shared her music with others that had never heard of her and they are equally impressed. Her live show was a soothing, sultry, treat for the soul. She came out with a musical jam accompanied with her band that took me by surprise. It was sort of spacey and somehow reminded me of a Dead jam of years ago, she tapped and plucked inside the piano to create some trippy sounds. She then played the songs that warm the heart and can take you back to a time when you could imagine how it was at a jazz club of the 40s. Her band is made up of world class musicians and I was pleasantly surprised at her musical ability. Melody is absolutely beautiful and her sultry sound is captivating. I could see her breaking through to the mainstream with a James Bond theme that would have everyone asking who is that girl is that sings that tune? Many will someday ask "How come I never knew about her sooner?" Either way I am convinced that there will soon be a day that everyone will know MELODY GARDOT!!!

    Melody was fantastic!

by ElleW on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Wow!!!! I've been listening to her music, but to hear her live, was such a treat. She had wonderful stage presence, and her voice was timeless! What a fantastic group of musicians that back her too. She is amazing. My husband and I loved our evening and didn't want the music to end. Please return to Boston, Melody :-)

Melody Gardot - an Original Talent!

by CuchiCuchi on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Spent a frustrated hour listening to an opening act I didn't enjoy or pay to hear. A few songs would have been tolerable. When Melody appeared she & her superb 3 musicians took my breath away. Jazz at it's finest - a rare treat in Boston. Many thanks. Note: very juvenile to "cuff" wrists and stamp pad our hands. What are we, at a rave concert?

    Out of this world

by frewoo on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Melody and her band were fabulous last night. They were stunning musicians and she has an otherworldly quality, with her voice capturing the whole spectrum of womanhood - smooth, sultry, kittenish, dark, sexy, playful, light, intelligent. The variety of pace, mood, tone, and the verbal commentary between the songs - engaging the audience, teasing us, confiding in us, challenging us and inviting us to join her on a trip to another world, were all awesome! I remembered why I love jazz and adored the originality. From the moment she walks onstage with her weirdly fascinating walking stick and bends over to pluck the keys under the naked back of the grand piano, you know you are with a true original.

    A Thrilling Evening

by CDonovan on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Melody Gardot and her band were absolutely amazing. Talk about top-notch musicians. I don't believe I've ever seen a finer sax player. At one pint he played two saxophones at once. He also played flute and clarinet and made it look effortless, while intoxicating the audience with his skillful mastery of his art. The bass player was equally as impressive. At one point he was playing so fast on a solo, you couldn't really see his fingers! (our table was virtually touching the stage, so we saw everything). The band was rounded out with a telented drummer. As for Ms. Gardot, her voice was magnificent as was her piano playing.. She was captivating and intoxicating. The musical arrangements were unique; musical artistry at its finest. A must see show for all music-lovers.

Melody Gardot: a show to remember

by Anbasimitye on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Melody was everything that I expected and more. Last night she had in her repertoire, most of the songs that I like. The use of the saxophone instead of the violin didn’t make much of a difference. As a matter of fact, the sax player put up quite a show in his solo with 2 saxophones. The only down side I experienced,(nothing to do with Melody) was the heat in the theatre. I would have preferred to have the A/C on.

Melody Gardot - catch her live!

by MassJazz on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Last night's show was an amazing display of musicianship, entertainment and virtuosity. The band's solid jazz chops brought Gardot's songs, which we had only heard on recordings, to new heights and depths. She was an engaging figure center stage, but we loved the way she shared the limelight with her talented trio- and why not, they were fantastic, especially the reed man. Thank you for bringing this show to Boston.

    Melody Fantastic - Seating Lousy

by iggster on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Five stars for Melody and her band, one star for the Wilbur seating set up. First, Melody is such a gifted singer and musician, which I knew from her recordings, but in person, she is absolutely amazing. She is talented, funny, charming, sexy and puts on a wonderful show. Her band was made up of some of the best musicians I've heard. They are not only exceptional musicians but very inventive in their styles. Now the big downside of the night. I apparently made a mistake in ordering my tickets as soon as they went on sale because we were seated at very very crowded tables right up against the stage. This was great for viewing, horrible for sound quality. You can't be that close to the stage and truly get the full sound of the performers. Melody's voice was muted and we could not understand many of the lyrics and could not understand her when she spoke. This was completely the fault of the location of the seats. While we enjoyed the show anyway, the poor sound quality undermined Melody's performance. This is a disservice to the performer as well as the audience. I would hope that the Wilbur Theater would consider this problem in the future. Frankly I would hesitate to buy tickets to future events there. Even in viewing the seating chart, it was not clear that the seating was that close to the stage.

    Incredible Gardot!!

    by Paris963 on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

What a show!! With an outstanding band, Melody has a great, dramatic show. Each musician was just awesome. Her jazzed up - melancholy style is the likes we have not heard before.

Melody Gardot is a major talent.

by CaptainNemo on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

I went expecting a pleasant evening and got one of the best concerts I've attended in the past ten years. I got to see Pat Martino last month; he is one of the greatest living jazz guitarists, and Melody Gardot is easily on his level in terms of talent, professionalism, stage presence--everything! Melody Gardot is the real thing, and every moment she is on stage only confirms it. She is a Buddhist, I read on her website, and she certainly knows how to be in the moment and to help others exist completely in the moment as well. She also wrote something about the ability to dream while awake, and she does have that uncanny ability to create a kind of dreamworld for the audience--something that allows us to step outside of time for a while, and outside of our ordinary lives, and to experience things in a way that is very fresh, unfiltered, immediate. Only the great ones can do that. I'd also like to add that the musicians were superb, especially the great Charnett Moffett on bass. The sound those four people produced was just HUGE!

    The Great Gardot

    by Sonny321 on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Even though the opening act was a disaster, and even though the Wilbur is an uncomfortable venue with no apparent climate control, Melody Gardot and her band overcame those obstacles, and they were spectactularly good.

    Disappointing

Sat on the lowest level. Bass was WAY too high. Could not hear Melody sing. Wife and I were very disappointed.

    fabulous performer, musicians

    by juram18 on 6/3/10Wilbur Theatre - Boston

Definitely worth seeing. Specially in a smaller venue. Melody Gardot is a true performer. Multi-talented musician, witty, and sexy. Pleasure to be a part of her musical experience. And if that wasn't enough, the 3 musicians that accompanied her were superb. Must see.

The show was amazing and so was Melody. We were really disappointed at the fact that tickets said concert was at 8. We showed up at 730 and waited outside in line to get in. Once we got into the club we overheard someone say it was actually supposed to start at 9. She didnt come out onto the stage until around 920ish or so. I didnt really mind the waiting but I think what bugged me the most was that there was no seating really available. Other than standing for more than 3 hours the concert was great. She is a wonderful and beautiful performer.

Melody Gardot & Band talent beyond measure

by BrodyJ on 10/30/09Troubadour - West Hollywood

It was my first time at the Troubadour and it was awesome. Small Venue, but allows you to get up close and personal. I was so glad to hear she was playing on the West Coast. Her band was super talented and showcased throughout the show. She spoke softly at times, but when she spoke she was funny, thoughtful, and it was meaningful. There were no awkward moments, even when she had to start a song over cause the sound wasn't right.
