    The Sound Of Music sing-a-long

by brebrelamb on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I absolutely loved it. Everyone was interactive and excited about the show. Seeing all the kids dressed in their costumes was adorable. Parking wasn't as bad as some people made it seem. We parked at the top near the entrance to the venue which was cheaper than parking a block away. The pre show was cute AND you can bring your own alcohol!! The screen is gigantic so it seemed like every seat was a good one. My friends and I are planning on attending again next year.

    A.STINKING.MAZING!!!!

by Chaysters on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This was the first film my dad took me to see in the theater. He had the soundtrack album that we listened to ALL the time a kid. I was excited to go (this was my first year), but didn't know what to expect. MAN OH MAN!!! What a fabulous experience!!! The sing along was FABULOUS! TWO BIG thumbs up!! Cannot wait until next year! Loved the people who took the time to think up those amazing costumes, but there really should be a limit on how many are able to go on stage... The show started late due to the parade of costumes.

Sing-A-Long Sound of Music Best Time Ever!

by mbosque on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I attended this event with two of my sisters and we had a blast! The experience was memorable, from getting to the Bowl to dining in the Wine Bar to enjoying the show with the crowd. Getting there was easy. We drove in from Corona and used the park and ride lot on Ventura Blvd- easy, comfortable and cheap! Next, we chose the Wine Bar to get a bite to eat before the show. A bit pricey, but worth it! The food was excellent and satisfying! Finally Melissa Peterson hit it out of the park with her M.C. duties-very funny and enjoyable! I will definitely attend this event next year, and we're thinking adding a few more summer events at the Bowl!

    Sound Of Music was awesome!!

by LCFSingers on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

We were a group of 4 ladies, we drove and parked at the zoo (best Idea EVER!!) we were one of the first group to get to the Bowl.. we found the most perfect picnic spot, sat and ate and drank for a few hours, so worth getting there early to get an awesome table and a great view. We finished a little after 6pm, went to our seats and watched the Costume Parade.. (which is a bit longer than what I imagined, sorta put a damper on the night) but am quickly blocking that out of my mind, next year, am just going to sit at our picnic table and hang out longer.. I think you all need to limit the costumes to 1 hour or less.. the Announcer was awesome.. she really knows her stuff and kept us laughing throughout the entire parade.. if she wasn't part of that it would have been EVEN longer.. so Kudos to Melissa.. ok going back to the show.. it was awesome.. people singing, words on the screen helped the not so knowing ones.. but honestly was a great night, great weather, great company and we had a great time, make sure you go with fun people who want to participate, and pray you get a seat with good singers!!! Thanks again for hosting a great night!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

    The [Hollywood] Hills are alive...

by Anonymous on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Such a fun event. We try to go every year. Hearing/seeing the entire audience participate is really amazing. The props people bring are really clever. The only thing to keep in mind is the Pre-show can get long. It is a long parade of audience members that have dressed up for the movie. Again, really clever costumes, but It goes on for at least 1 1/2 hours. The movie can't start until it gets dark, so that is usually about 7:30-7:45. I recommend not rushing to get to your seats until 7-7:15. You'll still catch some of the costume parade, but you won't feel like you've been waiting forever for the real show to start.

    Weird & Wonderful

by TraceL on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

Taking a 3-year-old to an event is always a gamble but I was hoping this sing-a-long would be casual enough to get away with it...and it was. The audience was fun, friendly and trippy, dressed in everything from nun's habits to Von Trapp kid play clothes made from curtain material. Host Melissa Peterman was hysterical providing the intro to the evening and hosting the pre-show costume contest. The pre-show festivities lasted far longer than I expected, over an hour and a half. It did give us plenty of opportunity for bathroom breaks and concession stand runs. I was amazed with length of time, that my pre-school daughter made it nearly to the end of the movie. This is an event I would definitely attend again.

The Sun Went to Bed, but I Did Not!

    by Ellie2890 on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I was a lovely evening, I really like how picnics are allowed in at the Hollywood Bowl. I had never been to this event before, and it is clear that people return year after year to see Sister Maria sing a few of her favorite things. The movie was fun, the crowd was fun, but next year I will dress us!

Event was great! Loved seeing the movie at the Hollywood Bowl and singing along with friends. The costume contest dragged on for wayyyy toooo long!!!!! I loved the costumes, they were great - but not after 2 hours of watching person after person on stage. Other than that, it was a great event! Will definitely be back next year! :)

    Great FUN!

by Mikethepa on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

My third time to Sound of Music Sing Along and I enjoy it more each time. The atmosphere and mutual enjoyment for the movie shared by so many people is always a pleasurable experience. The hostess (Melissa?) was super; great sense of humor. The handout bag and poppers were cute. The film quality and sound were excellent. It started and stopped on time. The crowd reactions and antics, including the cell phone lights during "Edelweiss" were highlights. Being able to take snacks and drinks into the Hollywood Bowl was very good. My only negative comment: Too many entrants in the costume contest who didn't really dress up; if you don't make the effort to make/wear some kind of costume stay off the stage and don't waste valuable time. There should be some kind of pre-screening for that..

    Sound of Music sing-a-long

by Anonymous on 9/23/14Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

I've had this on my bucket list for a number of years. I'm glad that I've gone. It is a once in a lifetime event. Anything more than that would tarnish the memory. The begining of the evening with the costume parade is a bit performance art, and entertaining for the first 20 minutes, but then it tends to drag. The most amazing part of the evening is to realize that over 16,000 people would rather be at the Hollywood Bowl singing along with The Von Trapp family, than being at home watching a "Zombie" movie or American Horror Stories. People do want light, bright singing and clean entertainment.

I would recommend someone do this once. It is fun and the crowd is amazing. The movie is also PERFECT for this type of event. HOWEVER, the pre-show is way too long. They should limit the costume parade to children 10 and under, or they should just march them across the stage like a real parade. They interview each and every person which is excruciatingly long. See it once, for the experience and get there late.

I saw Melissa Peterman at the Punch Line in Sacramento. She is hilarious!! Kept us laughing the entire time, from before she got on the stage, to after the show when she was talking to people and signing autographs. I can't wait to see her again!
