About

Melissa Manchester’s career is remarkable not only for its longevity and accomplishments, but for its versatility.  Following her stint as a founding member of Bette Midler’s Harlettes, Manchester’s tremendously successful solo career brought her critical and commercial acclaim.  The “Midnight Blue” singer received her first Grammy nomination for Best Pop Female Vocal Performance in 1979 for the Peter Allen/Carole Bayer Sager-penned “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” winning the Grammy in that category four years later for “You Should Hear How She Talks About You.”  Manchester has also had her songs recorded by Barbra Streisand, Roberta Flack, Dusty Springfield, Alison Krauss, Kenny Loggins and many others.  Two songs she performed, “Through The Eyes Of Love” and “The Promise,” were nominated for Oscars in the same year.  She has written tunes for several other films including The Great Mouse Detective, Lady and the Tramp II, Dirty Girl, and Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls.

by SkierBill on 11/18/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

Seeing Melissa Manchester at the historic Ark in Ann Arbor 11/16/10 was a truly unforgettable evening. Her voice is as wonderful as ever, her stage personality engaging and taking the time time meet everyone afterwards a treat. Don't miss her if you get the chance. I hope she comes back to Michigan soon.

    Still amazing.

by BillinMichigan on 11/18/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

Still the same great voice, but never having seen her in concert what impressed me most was the passion she put into every song. She performed a wide variety of songs, making each special with her introductory remarks and her interpretation. The warmth of her personality came through on stage making you believe you could be friends with her in real life.

    Melissa was Melodius !!!!

by Trublusu on 11/18/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

Although the weather outside was horrific ... pouring rain, wind & winter-like temperatures, the atmosphere inside her concert was warm & cozy. When not singing like a bird, she was burning up the piano, smiling, & tossing her curly hair around like she was still in her 20's. She also added the bonus of sharing her private life with us - which I knew nothing about. If I had a wish in life - it would be to sit next to Melissa & write a kick-ass song together.

A wonderful way to spend an evening. Her stage presence is so compelling, romantic, and also tragic. We loved it!

    Melissa Manchester was fantastic

by emth on 11/18/10The Ark - Ann Arbor

The show was great. She sang the songs I'm familiar with and love but she also sang things I had never heard and really want to get cd's of. I would have loved to be able to meet her after the show but the crowd was too large and we had to drive back to Toledo.
