About MEAC Basketball Tournament
Across the country, March signifies the start of college basketball's crazy postseason. The first steps toward March Madness are the conference tournaments that take place in each of the NCAA's conferences.
Among those is the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), whose tournament dates back to 1972. As one of the smallest conferences in the country, the MEAC sends only one team to the NCAA tournament — its conference champion, crowned at the end of an 11-team, single-elimination tournament. The current iteration of the tournament takes place at Norfolk Scope in Virginia, the former home of the Old Dominion Monarchs.
No team has ever been more successful in the MEAC tournament than the North Carolina A&T Aggies, who have won the title a record 16 times. However, in-state rival North Carolina Central has been successful more recently, with three championships in the ‘10s.
While the MEAC doesn't have the name recognition of the bigger conferences, a handful of NBA players got their start in the conference. The 2012 tournament MVP Kyle O'Quinn parlayed a successful college career into a solid career in the NBA, while Florida A&M's Jerome James carved out an 11-year career in the early part of the 21st century.
Perhaps the most successful MEAC player in the NBA was North Carolina A&T's Al Attles, who played 11 seasons in the NBA after being drafted in 1960. Attles played his entire career with the Warriors, first in Philadelphia, then when the team moved west, in San Francisco.

Great experience no issues at all. Easy to use an access.
There was NO parking for the handicap…(they had it for reservation parking. Made no sense
The Scope is dirty. The PA system in jot clear. The sears are too small and there is insufficient legroom. Bathrooms not clean and consistently out of supplies. This venue is not fit our HBCU's and Alumni. You need to select a new venue or insist on needed cleanliness and upgrades.
Not clear to me why there are limited tickets available because the arena is less than half full. This is a shame. It may be because early ticket sales are all games vice individual sessions.
The MEAC TOURNAMENT is an ideal venue for Sports/HBCU Enthusiasts to gather, enjoy and boast for your team! Even if you didn’t attend an HBCU you can feel the rivalry and support whoever pleases you. You can see and feel the tradition and legacy!
The MEAC tournament was great Division 1 basketball played by outstanding players. I suggest MEAC improve on solicitation of vendors. All patrons should be required to sit in their reserved seat because the Scope Arena is not general admission. A seat is not a seat.
1. Retrieval of ticket and gaining access to the event over the 4 day MEAC Basketball tournament.
Parking was great . The facility was excellent. The games were great. Things to do in the area.
This was one of the best MEAC tournaments that I have attended. The atmosphere, hospitality and the event was top-notch! Looking forward to next year!
I loved the way the tickets this year were right on your cell phone. It made it very easy to simply scan your ticket and keep it moving. However; I’m not sure if this was available, but I would have loved to have been able to share my 2nd set of tickets with multiple people. When I transferred the ticket, it transferred the entire set. It would be nice to be able to transfer specific tickets for different individuals, for specific games. Nice job ticketmaster!!!
We enjoyed the MEAC games. The environment was exciting, the food delicious and the vendors very friendly. Our only challenge was the seating, for we have long legs. After a while, it was uncomfortable to sit, and we had to stretch our legs by going to an unoccupied area.
Great games and atmosphere food good music and court events were good also bands and cheerleaders were great
Very nice time. No real issues at all. Seat were great. Food as usual a little pricey.
I had no problems with Ticketmaster and getting my tickets! Smooth sailing all the way!
It was great games. Vendors are definitely overpriced. The arena felt like were were outside watching the games. I had on jeans, timbs, a long sleeve shirt, hoodie and a coat. I was freezing 🥶 😫.
It was a little challenging at first given my age and dealing with technology. But once my granddaughter showed me how access my tickets, it was better than sliced bread. Did not have to remember which tickets to bring, did not have to mess around with a book of tickets; did not have to remember where I put the tickets. Plus it was easy to share the tickets with my wife.
We were truly treated to a great women’s college basketball game as Howard took on Maryland Eastern shore. It was an exhilarating experience, and great basketball.
Great atmosphere, food prices a little high but always a great time!
I went to the MEAC tournament for three days and I must say I really enjoy myself. I enjoyed the all the events and give aways/prizes. I did not like the Ynot pizza they served at the concession stand. It was cold and dry, the Scope has to do better with their choices for the prices you pay. Overall, the MEAC was a success.
