Wayne Kramer and an all star band of MC 5 sonic/ spiritual descendants, including Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Billy Gould (Faith No More) and Marcus Durant (Zen Guerrilla) rendered a tight explosive start to finish rendition of the 50 year old classic "Kick Out the Jams" plus a selection of songs from follow-up "Back in the USA", one tune from their greatest album, "High Time," plus early single "I Can Only Give You Everything". There is nothing I can tell you about these players that you don't already know in terms of the level of musicianship, heart and soul they of course brought to the proceedings. Now, you might not be familiar with Marcus Durant, so I will tell you that for me he really put this whole thing over the top. Tall, afro'd, sunglasses, 6+ feet tall he breathed life into these songs with a groovy ferocity and electric presence that did Mr. Rob Tyner proud. As a friend noted, "I would pay to watch this guy do the dishes." Here's hoping for another tour (complete rendition of "High Time"?) or better still, new material....
