  • You Need To See this Guy!

by Staff Fredo on 12/18/24Jimmy's Jazz and Blues Club - PortsmouthRating: 5 out of 5

I didn't know anything about Matt Schofield until he appeared on the schedule for one of my favorite venues, (Jimmy's in Portsmouth, NH), but he sounded interesting. "Three-time British Blues Guitarist of the Year"sounded like a good endorsement. I was not disappointed. Schofield has a unique style and is supported outstanding musicians on drums and organ. Guitar master, Tomo Fujita from Boston's Berklee School of Music, joined him for a few numbers and the interplay between the two was nothing short of fantastic! Schofield and his associates are a MUST SEE in my book.

Matt and the band played a fantastic collection of new and old original tunes and Christina killed the Aretha Franklin classic Dr Feel good! Wolfe on the Hammond B3 with left hand bass was awesome. Will be back next time Matt’s playing Jimmy’s!

First class venue. Sound couldn't have been better. We were in the bar, so somewhat limited view but this was overcome by closed circuit TV that showed things you wouldn't have seen from the front row. Matt was terrific, as expected. I hadn't seen him in over 10 years. Incredibly fluid guitar licks and playing. His new band (for me) did a solid job and are also excellent musicians.

  • Matt Schofield always delivers !!!

Another great show from a truly gifted guitarist. I'm glad to see that more people are becoming aware of the hidden treasure that is Matt Schofield. He has much to offer a willing listener in the way of his passion and performance of the blues. I would recommend to Matt to incorporate some covers in his set to further highlight his talent which would also to his benefit draw more listeners...Loved the show...!!!

  • Lackluster

by Crawsto on 11/5/17Chappaqua Performing Arts Center - ChappaquaRating: 3 out of 5

I saw Matt for the first time recently in Fairfield Ct and he played all Albert King covers and he was off the charts impressive. The trio at Chappaqua with hisown material was uninspiring. I didn’t stay until the end. Hes a very talentd and capable guitarist but this show was a yawner.

  • Matt Scofield - Incredibly gifted player

Scofield is a "master" guitarist/blues man. Exciting young musicians rounded out the trio. This was my first exposure to Matt Scofield, and the band exceeded my expectations. I hope that he will return to this venue, and I will make a point of getting the word out to others, about this incredibly talented musician. Don't miss him if he is playing at a venue near you!
