Matt Maeson on Tour
Matt Maeson's introduction to the stage was far from ordinary. The singer/songwriter toured with his parents, playing Christian heavy metal and performing at prisons across the U.S. While he would stray far from his roots for his own solo career, that experience helped shape his high-powered performance style. After his first U.S. headlining tour, Maeson landed coveted slots at festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. In 2019, he continued to spend most of his days on the road, for the Bank on the Funeral Tour and The Day You Departed Tour, both in support of his debut album. That same year, he even got a chance to sing on stage with one of his favorite artists, Lana Del Rey.
Matt Maeson in Concert
Matt Maeson's bluesy, rock-infused alt-folk manages to sound big, bold and intimate all at once, as he mixes raw folk songwriting with anthemic, pop-inspired production. It's a far cry from the music he played growing up in Virginia. Maeson's parents played in Christian metal bands, and he took up drums and guitar as a child to join them on tours around the country, performing in maximum-security prisons and at biker rallies. Through it all, his parents forbade him to listen to rock music, but that didn't keep him out of trouble. As a young adult, he struggled with drugs and even landed in jail, but soon found a sense of salvation in creating his own music. In 2015, he began posting songs to SoundCloud, which caught the attention of a representative at Neon Gold Records. The label quickly signed him, and he released his debut single "Cringe," which eventually topped the U.S. Alternative Songs chart. He took to the road for his first headlining tour around the U.S., bringing venues like Irving Plaza and Observatory North Park to capacity, while he worked on songs for his debut EP, Who Killed Matt Maeson? The following year, he dropped a second EP, The Hearse. Finally, in 2019, Maeson unveiled his debut full-length album, Bank on the Funeral, a dynamic set that combines empowering rock anthems with poignant folk ballads.
Matt Maeson live was by far the best show I’ve ever seen.
First, Matt Maeson was amazing! He performed many of the songs better than the recorded version IMO. He’s a great storyteller and engaged the audience throughout the show. He’s funny and sincere and it showed in his stage presence. Second, Brennan was an unexpected gift opening for Matt. My only complaint: how has Brennan not released any music yet?!
Matt Maeson killed it Friday night at the music farm In Charleston. Acoustic Is the way to go y’all!
Amazing concert. Sounded just like his albums. The venue was absolutely adorable, and the bar was great. Quick service. Overall, the experience was great!
Matt really knows how to tell a story through his music, and he is very comical when interacting with the crowd. Lots of laughter. Wonderful sound, wonderful line up, wonderful performance. Id pay to see him performed over and over.
Great venue, up close performance. Easily accessed, only complaint, venue needed to let people know in advance that it only accepts cards.
I've seen Matt twice now and he is amazing! his shows do not disappoint because he sounds so great live. I already have tickets to go see him for a third time because his shows just don't get old. he's crazy talented and definitely my favorite artist. love you, Matt!
He was playing acoustic on his guitar. Just him and the stage and it was amazing!
Wonderful show, kid friendly but a good adult environment!!
Matt Maeson put on a fantastic show, but the venue, House of Blues Dallas, was disappointing in both the lighting (too many ad tvs with bright lights) and the sound (not loud enough, not best sounding)
This was one of the best shows I've been to in awhile. Matt Maeson did an amazing performing his songs and delivering great energy to the crowd. The venue and size was perfect for the crowd that almost every song word for word. 10/10 would do it again.
I was not disappointed at all. This was one of the best performances I’ve ever seen and I will definitely be seeing him when he comes back to Houston!
This was a great show! The sound was fantastic! I took my 11 year old. He loves Matt Maeson. We even got box seating right off the stage because he was too short couldnt see. Thank you House of Blues, Chicago for taking care of him! It was like a personal show! Really glad my son had a good time!
The concert was amazing. Matt Maeson was good as always, he puts lots of passion to his music. The band that opened (Moby Rich) was a great discovery. The place was nice, the drinks good and the perfect environment. Thank you, for the experience!!
Awesome show! The set was a little fast, but he is such a talented musician! He brought so much energy to the stage and you can hear the passion in his voice and lyrics. Definitely going to see him again in the future!
It was a phenomenal show! Enjoyed every second and would be very likely to see him play live again!
This was the 4th time I've seen Matt Maeson. He always sounds terrific, mixes up his set list, and has two talented backing musicians (wish he'd introduce them). Entry to HOB was fine, no delay. View from floor was good. It helps to be tall. The openers were pretty entertaining. All in all it was a good night.
Matt is a lyrical genius with an incredible voice. I saw him perform in May at Lincoln Hall and I fell in love with his music and performance. This show blew me out of the water. I knew he was good, but the production value has gone up significantly since I last saw him. GOOD FOR HIM. He deserves it.
What an incredible show! So much energy! And a lovely, intimate venue!
An INCREDIBLE show. Saw him several months ago at boot and saddle and he’s only grown as a performer. Stage presence was much stronger and he had great energy, and this is all beside the fact that his music is 🔥🔥🔥
