    Mary Poppins 8 p.m. Showing

by OllieLucinda on 7/28/15Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

My family loved the Mary Poppins event. The absolute best part was the live overture on the house organ. I hate that I did not hear the organist's name, but he did a fabulous job! We love the theater and want to attend more events there. Our only complaint was that this is a kids' movie and it's a rather lengthy movie at that. 8 p.m. was too late for my kids and they got very sleepy and fidgety. Maybe an intermission would have helped.

Mary Poppins was perfect as usual!

    by Disney1979 on 7/27/15Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

Seeing Mary Poppins with my family in the beautiful Tennessee Theater was a night we won't forget. The songs that were played on the organ at the beginning helped set the tone and anticipation for the movie. Such a special night!

    A beautiful experience

by AbbiG on 7/27/15Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

I had the privilege of seeing Mary Poppins for the first time ever at the beautiful and iconic Tennessee Theatre. The venue was absolutely beautiful; it even had a gorgeous Wurlitzer organ. The organist came on before the movie and played songs from Mary Poppins and it was amazing! Popcorn and coke for only $6 so the prices are fair, too. Truly unforgettable night.

    Mary Poppins was amazing

by Boopies on 5/3/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza - Thousand Oaks

I took my Granddaughters to see Mary Poppins because they loved the Disney Movie. Wasn't sure what to expect because a movie show so much more. However, this musical was amazing. The entire cast was superb. It was just as great as any Broadway Production. Loved it and so did my Granddaughters. Juliana Hansen was unbelievable. If you closed your eyes, you would have thought it was Julie Andrews. A must see.

    good play

by jcgl on 4/30/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza - Thousand Oaks

Mary Poppins was a great production with excellent choreography! Only complaint is that it was a bit too long especially for the younger kids in the audience.

The speech from the theater manager was too long !

by DiTi on 4/29/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

The play was good, but at the venue the manager or someone talked for about 20 minutes about funding the theater. The play was over half an hour late and that was too much for the kids.

    Let's get started

by Rayboy1 on 4/29/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

The show was suppose to start at 2, at 2:10 they started talking to the audience about the program at the theatre. That went on for 20 minutes, the actual show stared at 2:30. I had a 5 and 7 year old with me. They show was an hour and 20 minutes for the first act, that's 2 hours of sitting from the start. They were restless and bored by then, we left at intermission.

Acting was spectacular, the venue is forgettable.

by meandLena12 on 4/28/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

The show started late which was a bummer considering the amount of children in the audience, and because it was due to the director trying to get people to donate, become members, and because he was review upcoming shows. The acting was great, but you really cannot see the stage from the balcony, so just splurge on any other seats or don't bother taking your kiddo to a show there. The building is an eyesore, so that makes the experience less exciting too. It looks as if it were built in the 80's when most bad architecture popped up. The refreshments were chips, bagged cookies and candy bars. I was baffled that there were no fresh baked goods, no apples or anything a diabetic could snack on. We ended up paying over $80 I earned form a little sewing I do at home, and we left early.

    Not like the movie

by Anonymous on 4/28/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I liked it but being such a big fan of the movie I was surprised at how different the play was from it. I did like the alternate songs/new songs (except one) and the choreography. Just adjust your expectations and treat it as a new play, not the movie.

The dancing was exceptional! The customs were beautiful! The acting delightful and the lead singing was great! The story is changed up some so it keeps you on your toes to not assume what happens next, compared to the Classic Disney Movie.

    Practically Perfect In Every Way

by DapperDanD23 on 4/26/15Fred Kavli Theatre - Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza - Thousand Oaks

It's not hard to see why many consider the film version of Mary Poppins to be Walt Disney's crowning achievement. The stage adaption is done remarkably well in nearly all categories. The costumes, character development, and plot of the show are very well done. The music is a collaboration of the original songs from the movie and new songs written for the musical and are excellently performed. The actors did a great job portraying their characters' personalities and had a good balance of comedic and emotional moments. The sets and back drops could have used a little more work to make them look more realistic, but they did not distract from the story. Overall, a great production and a treat for people of all ages. A must see for all Disney fans.

Excellent for ages 8+; Grown ups will love it!

by Anonymous on 4/22/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

I was pleasantly surprised by how much the performance moved me. I took my 5 yr old son, who loves the movie, and though he really liked it, our seats were too far back for him and he got tired of having to focus so hard. If you want to take a young one, make sure they know the story first and sit closer to the front. It might have been better if I had remembered the binoculars. I felt like I missed a lot of the details from so far back. If I had to do it over I'd take middle orchestra. At intermission I had discussions with two families with smaller children who had to leave and miss the second act. Their kids were five years old and had never seen the movie or only seen it once. No doubt mom and dad LOVED it and were really sad to go. My son really enjoyed the second act but he was ready to go as soon as "step in time" was done. I couldn't get over how well it was produced and I loved every minute!

    Best Show in CA

by CBdlP on 4/21/15Fred Kavli Theatre-Thousand Oaks Civic Arts - Thousand Oaks

There is no better show in California right now than Cabrillo Music Theatre's "Mary Poppins." It's eye-popping and practically perfect. Standout performances by everyone. A Must-See!
