About

MARY LAMBERT IN CONCERT:

As the title of her 2014 debut album Heart On My Sleeve suggests, singer-songwriter Mary Lambert is not afraid to be vulnerable. In concert she combines passionate singing and poetic lyrics on songs about heartbreak, abuse, body image, and sexuality. Her incredible vocal range is simultaneously fierce and fragile -- one minute she'll croon in a delicate whisper and the next she'll belt out an opera aria with unbelievable ease. With a background as an award-winning spoken word poet, she also moves audiences with her talk-rhythm singing on songs like "Body Love", a confessional piece about body image that's astonishingly honest. But even though her songs are often emotionally deep, Lambert's sense of humor also shines on stage -- her audience banter is hilariously quirky, leaving ticket buyers utterly charmed.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Mary Lambert grew up in Seattle and started writing songs and playing piano when she was six years old. She graduated from Cornish College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Music degree in musical composition and made a name for herself as a spoken word poet. She won Seattle Poetry Slam's 2011 competition and launched her music career the next year with her debut EP Letters Don't Talk. In 2012 she co-wrote and provided vocals for fellow Seattle musicians Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' gay rights anthem "Same Love", which appeared on their debut album The Heist. The song went double platinum in the U.S. and earned Lambert two Grammy nominations, one for Song of the Year and the other for Album of the Year as a featured artist on The Heist. Her debut studio album, 2014's Heart On My Sleeve, was released by Capitol Records and debuted at No. 29 on the Billboard 200 chart. On her first headlining tour in 2014, Lambert's emotionally charged live performances established her as an unmissable live act.

Mary Lambert is an amazing performer!!

Mary Lambert played a heartfelt amazing concert ! Her voice so beautiful that it could easily be on Broadway. She chats with the audience like she's your best friend sharing touching moments of her life and deeply connecting with all there. So much fun too with her latest song secrets. A must see! I would follow her tour!

    Mary was great but...............

by bumbledee on 4/3/15Whitaker Center - Harrisburg

Mary Lambert was wonderful, funny and awesome! I saw her before and liked that performance a lot better. I do have one huge complaint we couldn't see her. She only sang one song away from her piano which totally blocked our view. It was frustrating and weren't told we would have an obstructed view and paid the same price as everyone else in the front row.

Fantastic show! I was front center, great view. She told interesting and funny stories in between songs and also talked about some serious issues. She rocked it! Phenomenal voice! Jillette Johnson was amazing as well. Beautiful voice and a great, unique overall sound.

Mary Malmbert is one of the best humans ever!

    by Tucker13 on 10/22/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

The venue was great. Nice and small and the acoustics were really good. Because the venue was smaller the show felt more personal. Her voice is amazing and the stories and conversations in between songs are always fun.

The opening act Jillette Johnson was perfect!

by hferris on 10/22/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

The only reason I gave this a 4 star review is because of the opening act, Jillette Johnson, otherwise I would have given it maybe 1 star. Jillette was spot on, her vocals were great and her band mate Matt Pynn is just so handsome and amazing. Mary was a bit too "spoken word" music for me, and her band wasn't very good at all. I will say this though, Mary is very funny! I would have enjoyed just listening to her banter all night rather than her singing.
