About

Mary J. Blige in Concert

Mary J. Blige has amassed an impressive eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards, 32 Grammy nominations, a 2012 Golden Globe nomination and five American Music Awards.

Influenced at an early age by the music of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight, Blige brought her own gritty, urban-rooted style - fusing hip-hop, soul and honest, frank lyrics - to the forefront on her 1992 debut album What’s the 411? The successful debut featured hits such as ‘You Remind Me’ and ‘Real Love’ and went to number #1 on the Billboard R&B/ Hip Hop Album Chart.

"Ms. Blige has established a hard-shell model of big personality female R&B: the sort of music, halfway between hip-hop and gospel that represents real talk and reasonable fantasy; deals with issues of trust, love and dependency; and accommodates midnight fears and self-congratulation.” - NEW YORK TIMES

“Mary J. Blige is best known for being one of the living, breathing queens of R&B, pop, and soul whose mere presence on our planet remains a constant blessing.” - SPIN

Since the start of her career, I've seen MJB live 5 or 6 times (maybe more). Each show gets better and better. I love her growth.

    Great Show

by M C on 1/3/23VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena - Jacksonville

Mary J and the two opening acts all did a great job with their individual performances. The sound systems speakers and microphones was very clear and volume was perfect.

    Main Performance started too late

by Vickie D. on 1/3/23VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena - Jacksonville

The show was scheduled to start at 8pm. While others performed, Mary J. Blige didn't start until 10:30 pm. The concert was in the middle of the week. I think promoters could have done a better job. They're was alot of empty time with the audience twiddling their thumbs.

Overall, the event wasn’t for us.

by Drgreen49 on 1/2/23VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena - Jacksonville

We were expecting more of an R&B vibe; however the concert was more like Rock.

    Great show terrible seating.

by Sugar on 1/1/23VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena - Jacksonville

My husband and I attended the show from Savannah to Jacksonville Florida. The event was at the vystar memorial arena. All of the artists before Mary were very good. Mary brought down the house as usual. She brought excellent sound equipment. The only problem I had was the seats my neck started hurting because to see the stage i had to look right the whole time. The people who design these arenas need to keep in mind that there should be no bad seats.

Started late and lasted too long

by Duuuvallll on 1/1/23VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena - Jacksonville

They didn’t introduce K Michelle or Queen Naja they just came on stage that was rude , the hour wait in between Queen and Mary was too long. The people walk too much !

    Could have been better

by Tmac on 1/1/23VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena - Jacksonville

The sound system wasn’t that great and the jumbo trone didn’t work while Mary performed. She was the main attraction and for people sitting in the nose bleed section it would have been nice to see her on the big screen!
