About

Mary J. Blige in Concert

Mary J. Blige has amassed an impressive eight multi-platinum albums, nine Grammy Awards, 32 Grammy nominations, a 2012 Golden Globe nomination and five American Music Awards.

Influenced at an early age by the music of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight, Blige brought her own gritty, urban-rooted style - fusing hip-hop, soul and honest, frank lyrics - to the forefront on her 1992 debut album What’s the 411? The successful debut featured hits such as ‘You Remind Me’ and ‘Real Love’ and went to number #1 on the Billboard R&B/ Hip Hop Album Chart.

"Ms. Blige has established a hard-shell model of big personality female R&B: the sort of music, halfway between hip-hop and gospel that represents real talk and reasonable fantasy; deals with issues of trust, love and dependency; and accommodates midnight fears and self-congratulation.” - NEW YORK TIMES

“Mary J. Blige is best known for being one of the living, breathing queens of R&B, pop, and soul whose mere presence on our planet remains a constant blessing.” - SPIN

Again, MJB did her thang like only she can! Robin Thick was good too, they both sing just as well live as on their CD's.

    Could've been great

by amschef on 3/21/10Sun Life Stadium - Miami

Parking was $20 in an open uncovered lot, it was $10 last year. The entertainers lined up were great however the timetable in the event magazine was wrong. Mary J. Blige didn't come on until 11:45 pm but was noted in the event magazine with a start time of 10:15. There was lots of chatter about local politics that was just background noise from the conversations going on. There were issues with the sound system and the seating was unclear. I was a bit disappointed but Teena Marie, Robin Thicke and what I saw of Mary J. Blige were great.

This was my first time going to The Jazz in The Gardens and all I can say is wow. The atmosphere at this event made even all the more better. Great music, great food and great people made this event what is was and the performers(Especially TEENA MARIE and MARY J ) did their thang. I will definitely be back next year and the year after that!!!!!

Tina Marie, Robin Thicke, Mary J , awesome!!!

by come1nall on 3/21/10Sun Life Stadium - Miami

The weather was perfect. Every act was wonderful. But Mary J, Robin, and Tina Marie, just left me with a feel good feeling. These 3 didn't just sing, they sang their music!!! My husband and I went and it was great to see so many beautiful people together just dancing and having a good time. The only thing that I would change next year would be to get my food early because the food lines were extremely long. WE will be going again next year

Jazz in the Gardens was the first event this year my fiance and I attended. We're Miami Gardens natives and decided to come to Jazz in the Gardens for our first time experience. We're so glad that we did because we really enjoyed ourselves, the beautiful weather and the cultural atmosphere. The people, food, music and performances were so amazing. We had such a great time, we've recommended Jazz in the Gardens to our family and friends. We're definitely looking forward to attending next year.

    Mary J Blige was incredible!!!

by LeilaMia on 3/21/10Sun Life Stadium - Miami

Wonderful event! Good line up of artists building the anticipation level through the evening, the three main performers were incredible, Teena Marie (still can belt it out), and of course Robin Thicke was great, but Mary J Blige's performance was fantastic, she gave 100% an incredibly moving performance.

    too many delays

by enjoyfl on 3/21/10Sun Life Stadium - Miami

The event attempted to stay on schedule but again the last act was more than hour off track. Many people were leaving as the lasty event started. The artists were of course great. I purchased the priome seating and we had and others had to wait for about 10-15 minutes before we were allowed to enter becaus they ran out of green wrist bands. The drinks were way to expensive. $4 for a soda $11 for one alcholic drink $8 for a beer.

    HOTT!!!!!!!!

by cdandtwins on 3/21/10Sun Life Stadium - Miami

The show was HOTT!!! 'Don't understand why Teena was cut short and we had to wait an half hour for Robin Thick and wait an hour for Mary J. Even with the wait, it was all worth it. I traveled from Virginia to be there and I was not disappointed. I thought it was organized and planned very well.

    MJB_Fantastic

by MJBFan on 3/21/10Sun Life Stadium - Miami

Waiting for Mary J. Blige was worth the endless wait times between acts. The lag time was way too long. More Port a Potties should have been available for the huge crowds/ If the stage needs to be set up then maybe music videos or some comedians could have kept the crowd engaged. Vendor prices were outrageous. Now despite all of the above negative the concert on a whole was Very Positive and up lifting. I would love to see this event continue and I am certain that the above critiques would be corrected as the event gets more experienced. Thanks Miami Gardens for a wonderful time. Many kudos to MAry J. Blige who is truly a professional and oh yes Teena Marie did her thing really well.

Teena Marie , Ribon Thicke & Mary J. Were great!!

by Teegirl on 3/21/10Sun Life Stadium - Miami

The concert overall was orrery good just wish it was not such a long day. I could have done without the circus. Too long of a wait between the main artist a bit silly.

Jazz in the Gardens is a MUST DO every year!

by sammiesosa on 3/21/10Sun Life Stadium - Miami

Ever see Robin Thicke rap along to "A Millie" by Lil Wayne? Ever get a chance to hear Mary J Blige run through almost an hour worth of songs? The good news is that for a mere $40 plus parking...you can catch a lineup of good musicians and artists for an ole fashioned good time at this outdoor event sponsored by the City of Miami Gardens. Each passing year brings a bigger turnout. Be prepared to be there from 4:00pm to midnight, however, there are vendors, food, and drinks to keep you occupied. It's also a great people watching opportunity. The vibe is very care-free and relaxed. Cons: weather? food and drinks are pricey...there can be downtime between musical acts.....cigarette and weed smoke. Other than that....a great time for adults and couples!!!!

the show itself was good. but it was unorganized. the performers wasn't on time-according to the program. there were technical difficulties with the mics, one performers piano sound, and with the visuals. they played music, then on the tv the sponsors would say words then back to the dj. also unnecessary speakers, such as miss miami gardens, people didn't want to hear her talk! it was ok. if the better organize it, it would be great. it was a huge turn out.! maybe next year i might attend again. we shall see!!!!!!!!!

Mary J left her blood sweat and tears on the stage. She made you laugh, cry, and motivated all at the same time. Simply outstanding.
