About

Grammy-nominated Marvin Sapp credits the entirety of his pop culture success to his faith, a power that served as the sole inspiration behind his 2012 participation in the Kings Men tour — not to mention his best-selling 2007 release, Thirsty. After achieving success with this breakthrough album, Sapp proceeded to further spread his faith by pursuing a speaking tour, as well as a live recording of several fan favorites at churches and cathedrals across the country. Sapp’s performances has fans on their feet, swaying side to side to his slow, yet inspirational  lyrics. In 2009, the gospel singer followed up his huge breakthrough album by recording "Here I Am" live at Wyoming, Michigan's Resurrection Life Church. More recently, he's followed a similar concert album route with the release of "I Win," a touching collection recorded at Evangel Cathedral near Washington, D.C.

Although largely unrecognized until his 2007 spiral to fame, Marvin Sapp's musical career hails back to 1991, when he joined gospel group Commissioned as one of the lead vocalists and participated in three major albums as well as an extensive American tour. In 1996, Sapp broke away from Commissioned in hopes of launching a solo career, thus beginning the eleven-year journey that ultimately led to 2007's Thirsty. Since that first major record success, Sapp's achievements have included BET's Best Gospel Artist in 2008 and 2010, plus multiple Grammy nominations in 2013. His late 2013 plans included taking the same faith-based approach to music responsible for his many awards, album accolades and ticket sales, infusing the traditional gospel approach with his distinctive contemporary style.

Marvin Sapp was very down to earth and personal. He shared some of the DVD footage with us and even made us laugh. I enjoyed the new songs that I heard as well as some of the old favorites. I only wish that it would have been advertised as a listening party and not a full concert like many were led to believe. Aside from that, I enjoyed it immensely.

  • Marvin Sapp was unforgettable!!!

by winninginlife on 3/5/12Crown Center - FayettevilleRating: 5 out of 5

In spite of a few minor technical difficulties, Marvin Sapp was completely relaxed and fully enjoying his audience. He was energetic, powerful and it was like being at a spiritual retreat. His humble transparency and "perfect" voice filled the place with worship and power. I could tell he loves what he does and I could also tell he is still healing from his beloved wife's passing in 2010. As my favorite, all-time gospel singer, I am SO GLAD I made the hour+ drive to see him.

  • Horrible

by MsZoe on 3/5/12Crown Center - FayettevilleRating: 1 out of 5

The praise and worship was by a local church. They sounded great, but I paid to see Marvin. He came out in everyday clothing. He sang bites and pieces from some of his songs. The remainder of the concert was him hitting on a stool showing clips of him performing at other concerts.

  • Marvin Sapp was Awesome!!!!

    by BCeltics33 on 3/5/12Crown Center - FayettevilleRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome event!!! I have always loved his music but to get an opportunity to see him up close and personal made the difference in the world. You could really tell his message through song was heartfelt. I truly enjoyed every aspect of the show even those things that may not have been perfect!!! But what in life is. He made it his own. I look forward to him returning to our city!!!!!

  • Enjoyed it

by Ginger05 on 8/15/11DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 3 out of 5

Well, I had alot of difficulty with printing the tickets. The computer I used would not print the tickets. After calling ticketmaster to send the tix to the will call, the tickets decided to print. We arrived at 7 30 because of traffic & because I had my tixs I figured I didn't have to go to will call anymore. Well they scanned my tixs & they read refund & they sent us back to the long line for will call. After standing in line for about 5 mins the supervisor of the box office spotted my tickets & allowed us to go up front & he got our tixs printed. When the concert started there was alot of empty seats and I think that DTE energy could have allowed us to move up to fill in the empty seats. The concert was awewsome & I really enjoyed myself but I do not think it would be worth another long drive.

  • Spirtually uplifting

by Joyah on 8/13/11DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

Sometimes you just need to get a good praise on!!! Marvin Sapp and Tye Tribbett were spirtually uplifting. It was a joy to see the young people that performed with Tye Tribbett. Tye puts his entire body into praising God!

  • Marvin Sapp - great, concert - okay

by MusicLvrs on 4/20/11Hampton University Convocation Center - HamptonRating: 3 out of 5

The concert seemed to be unorganized...way too much talking. I enjoy being in the presence of God, but it seemed as if they were trying to force us in his presence with the insessant call to worship. Of the opening acts, the individual with a limp who did the ocapella praise/worship medley was awesome. Marvin took way to long to get to the stage, but his vocal ability was CD quality.

LIFECHANGING!! Is the only way to describe this event. I am forever changed! It was definitely a worship experience.

  • Was Marvin Sapp even there? Oh yeah for all of 30m

by DHEN on 4/20/11Hampton University Convocation Center - HamptonRating: 1 out of 5

Almost 3 hours of opening acts following by what seemed to be @ 30 min of Marvin Sapp! On the last song the lights went up he walked off the stage never to return. No good night no thanks for coming out no nothing! I was soooooooooo disappointed as well as my husband and kids. I have to say that Marvin Sapp has an awesome voice and blew us away but the concert could have been better without all those opening acts. I do not know if Marvin Sapp was late or what but there was a lot of stalling from those on stage. Given the circumstances the audience was beyond patient. Next time Marvin go to the Chrysler Hall. We will pay more to see you alone!

A very good show, too many opening acts. Took to long for main attraction to shart on a Sunday. People were leaving like me, I had to work the next day.

  • Must See!!!

It was an amazing concert. I enjoyed every second and every word that Marvin Sapp said and sung.

  • Disappointed

by lelony on 4/19/11Hampton University Convocation Center - HamptonRating: 2 out of 5

I bought these tickets to surprise my parents. I purposely selected seats on the floor close to the stage during my purchase. When we arrived I was told that the seating was general admission. The tickets did not indicate that. Secondly, by 9pm, Marvin Sapp had not gone on stage although the concert started at 6:00pm. There were numerous opening acts and a lot of stalling promoting the sale of t-shirts and even a strange moment to give gifts to clergy in the audience but they realized they didn't have any gifts. My parents were ready to leave by 9pm, we never got a chance to see Marvin Sapp.

Although it started late, the concert was EXCELLENT and it was truely a blessing to be there. The spirit was definitely in the building and being able to worship with people who are annointed made the experience one of a kind. I would definitely recommend anyone...anyone who needs a blessing or there spirits lifted....to go to this concert.

  • awesome

A friend and i drove from Atlanta Ga to see marvin sapp and it was really worth the drive. He is an awesome man of god and he did a wonderful job from the opening act to the end. Everyone was upset at first because we had to stand outside the curtain for about 30mins but once the concert started we forgot all about that part. i would love to see him in concert again hopefully in the atlanta area. I didn't like the fact that they didnt have any programs for the show.
