Marquette Golden Eagles Men's Basketball History
The Marquette Golden Eagles, formerly known as the Marquette Hilltoppers, the Marquette Warriors and, briefly, the Marquette Gold, have been playing men’s basketball since 1916. The current formulation of the Big East, as an NCAA Division I non-football conference, included Marquette as a charter member when it was established in 2013.
Spending most of its existence as an independent program, Marquette rose to prominence under coach Al McGuire, who led the team to its first Final Four appearance in 1974 and sole National Championship title in 1977. Marquette joined various conferences between 1989 and 2004 before landing in the Big East ahead of the 2005-06 season. Coach Shaka Smart guided the Golden Eagles to their first Big East tournament title in 2023.
More than 40 Marquette Golden Eagles have gone on to become professional basketball players, including Doc Rivers, Dwyane Wade, and Jimmy Butler. The Golden Eagles have a century-long in-state rivalry against the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers, and games against several of their "Catholic Seven" cohort are hotly anticipated every year.

Marquette Golden Eagles at Fiserv Forum
Marquette plays at the Fiserv Forum in Downtown Milwaukee, which opened in 2018 and is also home to the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks. The arena, nicknamed the Four-One-Forum by locals after the city's area code, replaced Bradley Center, where the Golden Eagles and the Bucks both played from 1988 until the spring of 2018. The Forum currently seats 18,412 for basketball games and also hosts concerts, professional wrestling and other entertainment events.

by anneck1 on 2/18/13BMO Harris Bradley Center - MilwaukeeThis was my first visit to the BMO Harris Bradley Center and I was very impressed with the venue. There isn't a bad seat in the house.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Marquette vs. DePaul basketball game.
by MU2012Fan on 2/14/13BMO Harris Bradley Center - MilwaukeeFun time at the Bradley Center. MU basketball is better than an NBA game and the restaurants and bars around the Bradley Center are top notch. All seats in the Bradley Center are good. Sat in 400 level and had great sightlines for the low price.
Rating: 1 out of 5 Wasted & disappointed
by wisbird on 1/28/13BMO Harris Bradley Center - MilwaukeeGreat seats but really boring game -- way too many time outs, no hustle from the home team, no passion for the game. They spent more time dribbling than scoring. Can't imagine players worked up a sweat because they had lots of time-out rests and sure did not work/play. Would not waste my time or money on another Marquette game. The only excitement came from the poor bat who flew in from somewhere - then the players actually moved. Popcorn was stale too. This was our weekend away activity and it was a really big disappointment. Did I mention it was really boring and a waste of time?
Rating: 4 out of 5 Watching game with former classmates
by expatriate on 1/18/13BMO Harris Bradley Center - MilwaukeeWhile a win in the confernece is great, game was slow and effort did not appear to be great and thus made for a slow game. Ushers were attentive and helpful. Price of beer, soda, etc. is way too expensive for someone brining their family to a game. Chance to be with five classmates made the evening great. Game, dinner at Mader's made this a wonderful evening.
Rating: 4 out of 5by Amietta on 12/24/12BMO Harris Bradley Center - Milwaukee Great game! Golden Eagles won! Great day for a game
Rating: 5 out of 5 Marquette/Seton Hall
by ILmjg on 2/2/12Bradley Center - MilwaukeeGreat venue. Even the nosebleed seats were a great view. Easy parking, no crowd problems. Easy to find seats. Great game, great site. Milwaukee has it together.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Marquette had a great game !!
by BucksFan1976 on 11/14/11Bradley Center - MilwaukeeIt was a great game. It was a huge win 91-37. Granted it was only against Mount St. Mary's and not against Syracuse or Pittsburgh. It was still a nice win though. They definitely looked like a top 25 team that night.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Effort was not there
by expatriate on 2/17/11Bradley Center - MilwaukeeEvery year for 47 years we gather to see a game. Frequently came from different parts of the world. Stadium is poorly designed MU looked like they did not care about winning.
Rating: 1 out of 5 Awful game at Bradley Center
by Rdney on 11/19/10Bradley Center - MilwaukeeI thought this would be a great game, and UWGB would give Marquette a real battle- they stunk it up, and never came close to challenging the Golden Eagles. Young Marquette fans are cruder and more obnoxious than Badger basketball fans, which is hard to believe too, and the seats are really tight and uncomfortable. The couple in front of me couldn't stop groping each other, throughout the whole game, so disrespectful, but that's typical of our society today, especially youth.
