    Pepperland Rocks

    by G. H. on 6/22/19DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Positively inspired by Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Bank, Mark Morris Dance Group rocked DPAC with both interpretations of the well known songs come to life with visual dance but also some music not on the album. Highly recommended.

    ADF: Mark Morris Dance Group

by Music and Dance Lover on 6/22/19DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The music and dance were great! We really enjoyed the show. The singing was too monotonous and chatty. I guess that was what Mr. Morris was going for, but it detracted from the show.

    Don't believe the hype!

by 4CPR on 5/13/18San Diego Civic Center - San Diego

Not Beatles! Not very good dancing either. To be fair, maybe it got better; we walked out after the 4th 'song' - UNBEARABLE!

    Incredible!!

by beachdancer on 2/24/18Moore Theatre - Seattle

HIGHLY recommend seeing Mark Morris Dance Co's Pepperland show!!!! As a huge Beatles fan and long time dancer, it was absolutely perfect to hear Sgt. Pepper reinvented and see Mark Morris' choreography - especially being so highly renowned for his impeccable musicality. The set was simple and an excellent back drop for the movement on stage. The costumes were so appropriate in style and functionality for the dancers. And the fact that the music was was live as well just added to the artistry of the whole performance. I would watch this again and again and still be thoroughly entertained!! LOVE

    Perhaps too ambitious

    by 420funk on 2/22/18Moore Theatre - Seattle

This was my first experience of a Mark Morris production. I felt it didn't rise to the challenge. The dancers are very talented, but the choreography was repetitive and I thought it failed to convey the spirit of the album. Iverson's interpretation of the music was creative, though I thought the single vocalist was more of a distraction than a compliment. The costumes were wonderfully colorful and reminded me of the colored rolling papers popular in the 60's. I'm the end, I was disappointed and thought Morris squeezed the audience for more applause than was willingly offered.

    Mark Morris

by SFDWO on 2/21/18Moore Theatre - Seattle

Excellent-thoroughly enjoyable, very original musical arrangements. Instrumentalists were unbelievable. Dancing, the highlight of the presentation, of course, was amazing--meaningful, well-executed, simply, a joy to watch and absorb.

    Entertaining

    by 195014114 on 2/19/18Moore Theatre - Seattle

Have always loved Mark Morris. This iconic music was so interestingly arranged it made me smile at the same time that I wore a confused face. The simple scenery was lite so well and it helped change the mood. Yeah all, again loved your scarf/cape Mark.

    Pepperland

A remarkable production - fun and funny, and Mark Morris was there, bedecked in a brilliant pink shawl to take his bow with the superb cast.

Sgt Pepper for 5 yr olds

    by Viewer99 on 2/19/18Moore Theatre - Seattle

Disappointed waste of money. Dancers executed the show with great energy and stamina yet the show wasn't worth executing. Reminded me of something my children would choreograph.

    Exquisite invention defines modern classicism

by Francis4 on 4/21/16Fox Cities PAC - Appleton

One has to love Mark Morris. For a dance troupe steeped in classical form and heir to the Duncan, Graham, Balanchine mantle,it brings a reality to its creations that embraces the audience to a greater extent than most of the traditional companies. The dancers are real people of various body types, facial expressions and movements...not "forest nymphs". As such, they draw us into the drama (or comedy).. There is real love and enthusiasm in what they do that is contagious. The costumes ,lighting and especially the musical accompaniment work perfectly together. The presentations run from modern free-form, to stylistic jazz to a classically inspired rush that suggests a Wedgwood vase come to life. By the time the evening ends, we care about these people who have shown us enough of their souls that we feel that we know them. Come back! We want to have this dream again.

    Incredible choreography

by aicrag on 5/1/13Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

This is by far my favorite contemporary dance company, mainly because of the remarkable Morris vocabulary and his totally musical choreography. Of course, the dancers are terrific as well.

    Superb!

by Jhawk2 on 4/29/13Valley Performing Arts Center - Northridge

This was a brilliant performance. It was my first time at VPAC and I was very impressed both by the comfort and acoustics of the house and by the courtesy of both the staff and the very appreciative audience. I'll certainly be back soon.
