by J. K. on 3/27/19The Canyon Agoura Hills - Agoura Hills

The power, the energy, all provided by this "acoustic set of music" The stories behind the music, Mark was on fire, his voice in tune, the music fantastic We were all sorry it had to end

    Farner rocked!

by Vince Neil on 3/26/19The Rose - Pasadena

For only playing acoustic guitars only it was a refreshing look at his old and new work.

Fantastic--he is in great voice and great shape!!

by SFMARGUY on 3/26/19The Rose - Pasadena

The fearless leader of Grand Funk Railroad is now touring with 3 acoustic/electric guitars and one acoustic/electric bass guitar--they are all excellent musicians and Mark while pushing 71 now-- sounds exactly the same as he did over half a century ago; I was a bit surprised they did not do "We're an American Band" or "Inside Looking Out" but most of it was GFR hots turned acoustic and it worked very well even though there is no drummer; They are well worth a visit! I would go again---rock on Mark!

    American Band

by HR on 3/26/19The Canyon Agoura Hills - Agoura Hills

The down side, I wanted to see Mark's electric show the up side He is still a great entertainer, still has his voice and has no appearance of losing his chops in any way, still incredibly vibrant. I climbed aboard when "On Time" came out and only saw them once back then. Considering the other 60s/70s rockers, Mark survived I hope to catch his electric show. He still struts the stage as he did way back, very good.

    Mark Farner is GRF!

by vintagemoto on 3/25/19The Rose - Pasadena

Mark Farner is Grand Funk Railroad!!! I went to the LA Fair last year to see the "new" Grand Funk Railroad. Mark Farner's acoustic show was hands down far better then the full electric "new" Grand Funk. Mark is the voice and guitar of GRF. Highly recommend seeing Mark he is incredible!!!

    Dude has the pipes

by Troy on 3/25/19The Rose - Pasadena

One of the best and unique shows of all time. No drums, but he didn’t need them. Very recognizable strong voice. Excellent guitar player. Should be in the hall of game I recommend this show to anyone who likes rock and roll without bells and whistles. He doesn’t need any.

    Mark Farner Still Has It

by Jeff B on 3/25/19The Rose - Pasadena

Had a chance to enjoy a couple of hours with Mark Farner last night at the Rose in Pasadena. The extremely likable Farner had the audience eating out of his hand all evening telling tales of the adventures and misadventures of those three young guys out of Flint, Michigan, Mark, Don, and Mel, that of course became the powerhouse trio Grand Funk Railroad. While expecting a full-on blow-me-away electric presentation, we were all surprised to see and hear a fully acoustic set, without a drum kit altogether, and our host was backed by a solid acoustic electric bassist and two very talented six-string guitarists as well. The senior Farner made mention of his newness to playing acoustic gigs, but pointed out that most of his songs started out that way anyway, so it wasn't all that unnatural. On the way to the show, I commented to my wife about the great GFR Live album from 1971 and what an amazing live album it was, and how they opened with Are You Ready? on it. Well, sure enough, that was his opening number last night as well. After that, he ran through a half-dozen of lesser-known tunes, including Aimless Lady, Mr. Pretty Boy, Limousine Driver and a couple more from the earlier Grand Funk recordings. The band was tight and Farner was able to display his first-tenor voice, still in surprisingly good shape, whether singing lead or high backup throughout the show. To give that voice a rest in between numbers, he told stories about GFR's first major gig in 1969 at a pop festival in Atlanta headlined by the Rolling Stones, opening for Jimi Hendrix, his bro-sis relationship with Janis Joplin, the pranks she pulled on Mick Jagger, how they all secretly resented the British Invasion, their first recordings, and more. Really fun to be taken back to those times, to hear tales of your "heroes" by someone who lived through all of it first-hand. The very patriotic Farner turned his attention to his keyboard and played a couple of numbers including a soulful and very well-received Mean Mistreater. The crowd was extremely supportive all night with whoops, whistles and hollering going on like it used to be back in the old days with Grand Funk. The last third of the show included covers of Be My Baby, Locomotion and Superstitious, plus a poke at The Man with CSN's Ohio. The audience, including this author, sang the whole tune along with the band. A fine moment to be sure. Lastly, he and his band closed out the show with Captain, My Captain. Farner made clear his support of veterans, present and past, and the audience was at full volume singing the chorus "I'm getting closer to my home." Though the audience cheered for quite a few minutes after the band left the stage, there was no encore. The opening set was by a local product name Nick Marichal, who offered up a spirited set of bluesy-rock enclosed within a four-piece electric outfit. As is the requirement, we ate at the Rose and were surprised to have a nice meal, though stayed away from their over-priced and less-than-premium meat dishes. The service was clearly sub-standard too. All in all a very pleasant evening spent with some nice people around us and a very gracious and still very talented Mark Farner...it was a pity he wasn't still with Don and Mel, those once young 20-year-olds from Flint, Michigan...

I saw Mark on the Moody Blues cruise 2 yrs ago and found out at that time that Mark is not only a great singer, but also a great American and Dad. He did interviews after his sets and we were able to ask him questions.

Mark Farner is SOUL of Grand Funk

by BriannaF on 3/24/18Ridgefield Playhouse - Ridgefield

Mark is still amazing as he always was...pure rock n roll, pure heart! Great 18-song list for a close to 70-year-old and an old school rocker! Wish they kept the traditional encore or curtain call, but they do an autograph table instead. We saw him in the sort of small Ridgefield Playhouse in Connecticut. The venue was sort of enclosed, so someone needs to tell Mark and the band that they need to do a better sound check and scale back the instrument amps and speakers in that sort of setting--vocals and sound detail drowned out completely. A disservice to the band and music. I LOVE loud rock, but that was too loud for the space!! Wanna fix that Mark!

    I'm Your Captain!!!

    by futicmast on 3/5/18Potawatomi Hotel & Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Event Center - Milwaukee

Mark still has it. Have not seen him in-twenty years. His voice is clean and clear. He has a lot of energy left. The other two knuckleheads he used to be in a band with lost their minds when they alienated Mark from the band. Mark's band is every talented. If you pass up his tour, your loss. Get up off your butt and support these old rockers.

    Mark Farner's Grand Funk Railroad

    by ppwabbit on 3/5/18Potawatomi Hotel & Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Event Center - Milwaukee

WOW, Thus show Rocked. Mark was outstanding, as was his band.Reminded me of what serious Rock Bands used to perform in concert, Energy, Perfect Performance and more, and delightful comments by Mark about why their music is still relevant! Never seen them live before, a friend recommended the band, and Mark far exceeded my expectations. Many hits were played from our generation, and the audience loved it all. Thank yhou for a brilliant performance. Gotta go dust off the old LPs and rock the night away. First time n this venue,I thought the place was fantastic and the sound was perfect! Thank you Mark and thank you Pottawatomie Casino!!! Hope to see them again!

    Mark Farner was amazing

    by Hawk25 on 3/5/18Potawatomi Hotel & Casino/Northern Lights Theater/Event Center - Milwaukee

Mark Farner's American Band show was amazing. Listening to his catalog of Grand Funk hits brought back so many memories. His band was talented and provided perfect support for Mark. Even more amazing is at 68 years old and now wearing a pacemaker, Mark showed the voice and energy of a 20 year old. I can't wait to see him again!

Mark Farner ... still Louder Than Love!

by DEFuego on 2/20/18Andiamo Celebrity Showroom - Warren

While no one would compare Andiamo’s Showroom to the Grande Ballroom ... it was great seeing Mark up close again ... along with hundreds of his fans not tens of thousands. Mark was fit, his voice strong and his guitar playing gritty as ever! His keyboard work was gritty too. And fortunately he brought along his harmonica as well! Mark’s band mates were top notch ... especially the drummer who treated us to an incredible solo ... often overlooked by today’s bands. Excellent concert ... already looking forward to his next show!
