Funds raised at this event support the Rotary House and the future Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. Rotary House will provide lodging facilities close to cancer treatment which is a valuable service for patients and their family members; just ask any cancer patient who has had to endure long treks during one of the most difficult times in their lives. The lodge will be for patients, and their families, who live beyond 40 km from the treatment facility and will serve as a sanctuary; a place for healing to begin and spirits to be built. The Rotary Club of Barrie-Huronia has supported the dream of families staying together during cancer treatment, and for those who come to the future Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie they will have the Rotary House, a lodge for cancer patients and their families.

Doug Leigh, the founder of the Mariposa School of Skating, joined forces 19 years ago with the Rotary club of Barrie-Huronia and year after year has amazed the community by producing an evening of elegance and exquisite figure skating to raise funds for local charities. In doing so, the Mariposa Gala of Figure Skating has become one of Barrie's highest grossing charity events and a premier event on the figure skating calendar.
