About

Marilyn Manson on Tour

Although a shock-rock persona made Marilyn Manson a target of criticism in the '90s and early '00s, the hard rocker today is a highly respected, Alice Cooper–like figure. That comparison holds for Manson's flamboyant, aggressive music — combining influences from industrial, metal and glam — and flashy live shows, which boast ornate costumes, dizzying light shows and impressive staging. Appropriately enough, Manson toured with Cooper in 2013 on the Masters of Madness Tour, although that trek was simply one of his many well-suited live gig pairings. Back in the '90s, he opened for fellow metallic electro-rockers Nine Inch Nails, while in 2018 and 2019, Manson toured with Rob Zombie on a trek dubbed Twins of Evil. Around his own tours, Manson has also performed at major rock festivals such as Louder Than Life, Aftershock, Download and Rock on the Range.

Marilyn Manson in Concert

Born Brian Warner, Marilyn Manson grew up in Canton, Ohio, and later moved to Florida and studied journalism in college. Life had other plans, though. The aspiring musician formed the group Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids in 1989. In 1993, the group signed a record deal with the Trent Reznor–owned Nothing Records, which released the landmark 1994 debut album, Portrait of an American Family. In the years after, Manson was nominated for four Grammy Awards on the way to releasing 1996's alternative-music totem Antichrist Superstar and releasing singles that dabbled in glam ("The Beautiful People"), sludgy grunge ("The Dope Show," a cover of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams") and sizzling industrial ("mOBSCENE"). Manson also expanded his empire beyond music, dabbling in art, acting (including on Sons of Anarchy) and soundtrack work. In fact, albums such as 2015's The Pale Emperor even have a cinematic bent, courtesy of a collaboration with noted film composer Tyler Bates.

    Best event of the summer

by RyCon on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

I have never been to an all day music festival before and boy did this one not fail to impress me right from the start. Great crowds, lots of energy, amazing bands. The entire day was none stop head banging and horn raising. Im not not to really "let loose" at a show but at this event, I shocked myself by how into the songs I got. Absolutely amazing experience and I cant wait to do it again. Mayhem Fest's line up gets better each year, but it will be hard to top this one. I highly recommend checking it out.

    cool show

by ronjuan on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

great acts, great entertainment, but horribly priced drinks/food. the shows are quick and to the point, especially early in the day when you have one band right after the other on two stages that are only a few hundred feet apart. the biggest negative? pay the extra bucks for pit tix, bc you just don't get the same feel and vibe for the last four acts when your sitting in amphitheatre seats.

the Mayhem fest was a great event. The bands all coincided well. Vendor prices were ridiculous as far as beverages. T shirts and other stuff were reasonable.Facilities were fine and security was good. No problems. I would definietly tell my friends to go.I liked the second stage concept also and the highlighting of knew bands was great.t

by Fitnfun714 on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

Overall, it was a great music festival. I saw so many energetic bands and their fans, including myself, were all energetic to the bands' performance. My personal favorite was definitely Slayer...their sounds just blew my mind!!! I would love to see them again very soon, and hopefully they come back to Atlanta VERY SOON because I'm already ready for their show again! Slayer rules!!!

Slayer Shows Manson Who is Boss

by 2000Man on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

I only got to see Bullet, Killswitch, Slayer and Manson. Slayer should have headlined, especially since Manson was sick. Seemed to have a flu. Manson still did a great job, a true Pro. New material performed live does not hold up in concert. Bullet should have been 3rd on bill. Event and staff was very organized. VIP Tent was awesome.

    Mayhem Festival kicked ass

by Megadeth on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

Fantastic show with some awesome bands and non-stop metal mayhem. Having dual stages for the opening bands meant no waiting for the music. One band playing while the other stage is being set up is the greatest idea. The headline bands totally kicked ass, especially Slayer and Marilyn Manson. The only drawback was squeezing the 4 main bands into 5 hours. With an 11:00 curfew at the venue, an earlier start time to allow for longer sets for the headliners would have been nice. Other than that, it was a totally awesome day and I look forward to being back next time.

False Advertisment and Mediocre Bands for the most

by CasketCoffinski on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

One of the reasons I bought tickets to this even was to see Mushroomhead, to then discover they were only doing a handful of gigs up north... strike one goes to the organizers. Water was 4 dollars a bottle powerade 5 dollars(a dollar less for a water? come on) and the water fountains did not work and their were no mist tents in almost 100 degree weather... strike two goes to the venue. Strike 3 goes directly to Slayer! Wow.. not a very impressive live band and the MAIN reason I bought tickets to the event to begin with... I think my days of massive outdoor festival concerts is over!

What a great festival. All the bands rocked, and Slayer put on an incredible show. Once I actually regain my hearing I'll tell all my friends about it.

    Undisputed Attitude!!!

by Willy1459 on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

Slayer. Need I say more? I really hate that Manson headlined. He was good, but nowhere near Slayer. The show I saw in Atlanta only had the four big bands on the main stage and the rest were on the Jager stage. That kind of sucked since I understood from the website that like nine of the bands were on the main stage. But be sure not to miss the Jager stage! The set lists were also short. However, overall, an insanely good time. I will make this a habit!!

    Mayhem Fest 09

by djjpence on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

All of the bands were great. The only thing I didn't like was that every band on the main stage followed a too strict schedule. I feel that the bands on the main stage, especially Slayer and Marilyn Manson didn't perform to their full potential. Plus the fact that sitting on the lawn we couldn't seem to keep away from the mosh pits.

    Mayhem

by Astriel on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

All bands did a great job, the crowd seemed a little dead at times... I personally came to see Manson, who proved my expectations and put up a great show, however seemed kinda.....not as energetic as usuall...didnt speak much to the fans, left the stage the second after the last song....Other than that he was the man:) Great event, thanks!!

Hot, sunny, Georgia day full of head banging.

by Jereme on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

Mayhem fest was day-long metal festival with most of the performances happening on smaller stages setup in the parking lot throughout the afternoon. Fortunately, there was a group passing out sunscreen so people would hopefully not get too burnt up from being outside from 1:30 till sunset under the Georgia sun. Then, there was also the Georgia heat (around 90 degrees I believe). Given these considerations, I think they should have lowered the price of water ($4 per liter), or at least provided water stations with tap water or unchilled water so as to still provide an incentive for people to buy the overpriced bottle water while still keeping the crowd hydrated. With all the beer being sold and the free Rockstar energy drinks (both of which can dehydrate you, though beer isn't as bad), I think these may have contributed to people passing out in the pit during the Marilyn Manson show. Many of the shows were great and spectacular, but I think being outside in the heat and the sun sapped a lot of energy out of the crowd after a few hours, especially when it came time for Bullet and Killswitch to perform on the main stage (though they still managed to pump the crowd up). Same goes for the drained energy during the Slayer show. There were plenty of hardcore slayer fans at the show, but all the moshing was limited to the lawn section. The pit was too overcrowded and there just wasn't any physical space to mosh (while this may not stop Slayer fans from moshing under other circumstance, a lot of the crowd's energy had been sapped from moshing/head banging throughout the day and being exposed to the Georgia heat and sun all day long). The crampedness of the pit, along with the heat, led me to move to the seated section for the Slayer show, since the only benefit of being in the pit (if you didn't mind the heat and crampdness) was feeling the bass move the hairs on your body and seeing the sweat on Slayer's faces. The Manson show was a different story. It was worth being in the pit for that, in part because the crowd in the pit thinned out a lot after the Slayer show, and there was even some moshing going on. Though I think the show got cut short due to some health issues arising with Marilyn Manson. Between songs, he would go to the back of the stage where a stage-hand would place a big ice bag on the back of his neck. Also, he would sometimes breathe in from a gas tank right before a song (I'm inclined to guess that it was oxygen). Overall, though, it was a rememberable experience. The heat and sun took its toll on the crowd, but what are you going to do about that? For the bands that I didn't particularly care for, there were enough booths and other things to do. For the bands I did care for, they still managed to pump-up the crowd and pull off an energetic show.

    Killswitch was awesome!

by ChristSaves on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

All the bands were up to par. The bands played one after another without any issues. There were even opportunities to meet and greet the bands. It was a very well run show.

    Dirt Bikes and Death Metal

by metalheadguy696969 on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

You can't beat watching crazy bastards do backflips on dirt bikes while listening to heart pumping death metal. High energy bands on the hot topic and jaegermeister stages. Slayer put on one hell of a show as well.

    Mayhem Fest

by HeroInBlack on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

Killswitch Engage - this was my 2nd time seeing them, and they just rock the hell out of it every time. Great band to see live. Slayer - My 3rd time seeing them, and they are just great. Didn't play "Seasons in the Abyss," which was a little disappointing, but they were still very good. Marilyn Manson - I'm really not a fan of him, but he gave you what you expected. If you like his music, you'll like his show.

    Mayhem in Atlanta

by Mattsdad on 7/25/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - Atlanta

The concert was great. The bands were very good, sets weren't as long as they should have been on the main stage but its ok. The sound systems for all 3 stages were very good. The Lakewood Ampitheatre hosted a great party a usual. There were no crowd issues, just a few normal situation for a show like that but overall a safe well run event
