Los Angeles-based synth-pop artist Mareux takes musical cues from dark music, love songs, coldwave, post-punk, and dance music. His electronic beats and thumping bass lines are accompanied by brooding, emotional lyrics, earning acclaim among darkwave fans.
Mareux is the electronic music project of producer Aryan Ashtiani, who got his start in music while learning guitar from a childhood friend. He later picked up the upright bass in his school's orchestra, and began to learn music theory. Ashtiani was influenced by the eurodance videos he watched on Polish MTV during summers spent in Iran, and he started producing electronic music as a hobby.
Ashtiani was inspired to begin his own music career when he heard TR/ST's debut album in 2012, and chose the stage name Mareux. While the name has no specific reference, Ashtiani told New Noise Magazine that he chose it in order to avoid "getting lost in the vastness of the internet."
Mareux released his first EP, Decade, in 2013. In 2015, he released a cover of The Cure's "The Perfect Girl," and it became a streaming hit in 2021 when a sped-up version took off on TikTok. In 2022, Mareux put out a video for the song starring RuPaul's Drag Race winner Violet Chachki. He was subsequently booked for both weekends of Coachella in 2023, and his debut album, Lovers From The Past, was released shortly after.
Mareux will continue his global headlining tour throughout 2023, performing concerts in the United States and Europe.

Maruex was excellent, and for their style of music I’m not surprised that those of us standing in the back couldn’t make out some of the lyrics. The bar staff was exceptional, the tavern portion of the venue was amazing. The one thing that did not make the evening as good as it could have been was the fact that there was no one in the “merch” line and yet a security guard wanted us to make the trip through the dumb barriers set up in order to look at the merch which unfortunately sold out before Mareux even went on. It was an unnecessary show of power on his part that had it been avoided would have been a flawless evening. I don’t hold Maruex responsible for this but The Observatory may want to consider a different approach to their merch line. Also telling your female patrons to “bend over” even to get through an imaginary line is unacceptable.
We went through 30 minutes of an unknown punk band and stood for another 30 min for a 45 minute performance and he just dipped. The concert ended at 10:15pm when the curfew is 11pm so he could've gone longer if he really wanted to. His performance was great but I feel a little scammed
Mareux was great! The Observatory sound unfortunately was not great. Multiple times the microphone made screeching sounds. Sometimes you couldn’t even hear his lyrics because the sound was so bad. Still a good concert, but I wish I could’ve heard him better.
Great show, good energy and wasn't oversold like the last show I went to at house of blues.
I really enjoyed the show. Good people... Great ambiance. No drama. Laid back security that were on the job. Making it a safe fun experience. Drink prices were over the top. But enjoyed the show completely.
