The program notes said it all. Manon Lescault had 6 librettists before it got to performance. In the end, it was attributed to or claimed by none of them. I found that story line to be ridiculous all the way to the end when the soprano had her death scene on a desert near New Orleans, LA. However, the music was superb. The Intermezzo between acts 3 and 4 was beautiful as was the Soprano's death scene music. I think that this Puccini fellow shows promise and we should look for more from him in the future especially if he can get a good writer for the book.
I went to the production on Friday night and was the first time that I sat in box seats, awesome! The sets were gorgeous a well as the costumes. I don't know if sitting in box seats that the music projects upwards but at times the orchestra was so loud that I could not here the vocolists. All in all it was very well done and I really enjoyed the show!
Seats and venue were incredible, the GR symphony was top notch as always. The singers, actors, and crew had also brought their A-game. The opera itself, was poorly written and ultimately forgettable.
this was a great performance and I would love to see teh sold out night for it! Great job, everyone! teh decor was impressive!
