    Awesome event

by Katherine on 5/3/23Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland

I had a great time and the convention floor was awesome. There hasn’t been a convention like this in Maine before and I’m so happy we have one now! I do wish there were more announcements about the gaming/escape room. I didn’t know they were there until I was leaving!

Lots of vendors not enough activities/direction

by Attendee on 5/3/23Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland

We went saturday. The few panels available we were told were at aura across the street. We didnt get to those because we had no idea how to get there and there were no markers with that direction on how. Also they said we couldnt be readmitted to the first building unless we went to aura, so we didnt want to leave and get kicked out. We pretty much paid to get in and pay more money to buy items from vendors. There wssnt much in the form of entertainment games, or activities. I was hoping for more of that experience: connecting with other fans, playing games, etc. They had a few tables but those were taken up quickly. The only other seats available were part of the seating in the arena thst just overlooked the vendors. We only spent an hour there and left.

    Sadly Disappointing

by Glumshanks on 5/3/23Cross Insurance Arena (Formerly Cumberland County Civic Center) - Portland

The crew behind the Maine Comic and Toy Con have been running somewhat successful conventions in Bangor for years. Unfortunately, as time passes it's become clear that they have no idea how a convention becomes something more than a pay-to-enter shopping mall with Hollywood stars... and don't care to learn. This convention was poorly designed, poorly advertised, and poorly staffed. To sum it up, they need MORE. More staff to direct and interact with con-goers, more advertising to bring more people in, and more going on during the convention to keep people there all day. You could browse the entire show floor in an hour... and if you don't care to wait for a photo op, play a video game, or go to a star's panel... that's it. Half-hearted PA messages begging people to go stand in line for one star or another doesn't cut it. Look to PortConMaine for an example of a Maine convention who "gets it," and has so much going on at any one moment it would make your head spin. Unless these guys shape up, this will be the last convention they put on that I care to attend.
