What a joy to get to see Madeleine Peyroux in person after listening to her CD's for many years. The evening lived up to all my expectations. Was not really familiar with Paula Cole but I am now! We are so lucky to have the Birchmere in this area which enables audience members to experience these wonderful performers in a more intimate setting rather than in a big arena.
The "Will Call" was as advertised. The area to have a drink before the show was superb. The dinner was great. The dessert topped the meal perfectly. Paula was better than expected. Great job, Paula. Madeline was simply amazing. Calm with a beautiful voice. She was also entertaining. Just a professional all around.
Madeline with a full band and playing more of a upbeat or rock style failed.
One of my favorite jazz/blues singers in a sweet, intimate venue on a chilly night, joined by my best friend--couldn't have been better! Was up in the far reaches of the theater (all I could afford) but could still see perfectly. Acoustics were great. She performed my very favorite song, "Dance me to the end of love" along with a bunch of other goodies, including a solo acoustic version of "La vie en rose." The opener was also incredible, good enough to headline her own tour. Overall an incredible experience.
Great venue, great musicians. Madeleine is amazing We thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Madeleine and her band were AMAZING!!! The Cabot Theater was very charming and the audience was great. The seats were a bit cramped on the balcony, but we were able to spread out and get comfortable because it was not sold out up there. The music was great and the band was personable and fun. I'd definitely come back, but I will sit in the orchestra seating for sure!
Loved both shows! We had good seats because we arrived early and could pick where to sit, but they do cram in as many seats as possible, so many people sit in awkward positions in order to face the stage. Our waiter was really great, but he had to excuse himself and squeeze between super tight seating to get close enough to us to hear our order every time we wanted something. I'd rather they charge a few more dollars per person and have a more reasonable seating arrangement. The food and drinks we had were very good. The sound in this venue was great, as you'd expect.
I love the singing of Madeleine, but I prefer her with Jon Herrington and Barak Morsi.
First time at Sony Hall and loved it. Great space and very comfortable.
Talented singer, I paid for a ticket to a concert not for political commentary.
First time hearing Peyroux and band. All are so talented. Easy jazz was was my kind of feel-good music. Wish a few more of her 1st album songs were included, but she has a new album so I get it!
This was a great event. The second time I have seen Madeleine and I will go again when she is in the USA. She is a fabulous artist.
My wife loved it; kept our attention throughout. Madeleine came on stage and stayed for almost two hours. Various styles of songs were a pleasant surprise. Highly recommend.
Madeleine Peyroux provided a wonderful evening of entertainment. Her band is excellent and her vocals cannot be matched. She performed a variety of standards and new songs and the evening was a highlight of my times at the Birchmere. I cannot wait to see her again,
An time either come to town I will be there. So much more there that comes through with recordings unlike a lot of acts. The heartfelt was genuine. Each of their sounds is different from each other as it is from everything that sounds the same today. Each deserves recognition for being true to strengths. Nice mix of covers and originals from each person. Stellar back up for each.
Madeleine Peyroux was absolutely brilliant. Before this performance, we knew very little about her or her work. We were mesmerized, as was the rest of the audience. A "simple" electric guitar and a bass were masterfully played, harmonies were spot on and repartee was funny and interesting. I (not my wife) have been a longtime fan of Rickie Lee Jones. She sucked. If you see Madeleine Peyroux on at any venue, the ticket is well-worth it, not to be said for RLJ.
Madeleine Peyroux was great, but Rickie Lee Jones was terrible. Half the balcony left before the end of her set. Their final number together, "As Time Goes By", was terrific. With the structure of having Madeleine singing with her, Rickie was able to pull it together. However, left to her own devices, she rambled in a sad way.
My wife and I expected to be entertained by a dynamic singer, but instead it was dull and overly inappropriately political to the point where people made comments and walked out. It was very uncomfortable afterwards and others seemed to feel the same way. She also seemed to be under the influence of something perhaps she had one too many?
both Rickie Lee Jones and Madeleine Peyroux were amazing. great show!
