Got to the club at 8pm, and Suicide Silence had just started. Missed Darkest Hour :o( who I wanted to see. So the show must have started at 7 instead of 7:30. I thought it was 7:30. But props to The Newport for keeping things on schedule.
Machine Head were great...not only in performance and energy, but their light show was incredible. Props to their lighting designer, and lighting engineer.
Overall, their mix was fantastic. But as a drummer myself, I was very upset that Dave McClain's snare was buried deep into the mix. He's a hard hitter and even then, it wasn't cutting through. I thought maybe it was the frequency of where I was standing for most of the set (on the side), so I moved to the back for the last 5 or so songs, just in front of the soundboard, and it was only about 5% better.
I expect more from MH's soundman. He should know the most important drum to hear on a drum kit is the snare. If anything should NOT be buried in the mix, it should be the snare.
So that was my only issue. Other than that......killer. Dave killed it as expected.
