About

M.I.A. IN CONCERT:

M.I.A. has led the way for women in hip-hop ever since her fearless lyrics and gutsy stagewear propelled her to fame in the early '00s. The Academy Award and Grammy Award-nominated rapper is known for pushing the boundaries with her live performances as she mixes jungle and world music with modern rap and electronica amid artistic stage designs. Whether she's performing game-changers like "Paper Planes" or spitting fan favorites like "Galang," the dynamic British artist will treat fans to her hit-filled sets on tour with A$AP Ferg and Elliphant in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, M.I.A. got her start as a designer and filmmaker before deciding to pursue her music career full-time in 2002. Experimenting with beats in her bedroom, she released her 2005 debut Arular, which was inspired by her father and their experiences in her childhood home of Sri Lanka. The album was met with universal acclaim, landing her on tour with LCD Soundsystem and Gwen Stefani and launching her to a new level of stardom. Since then, M.I.A. has released three studio albums, including 2013's Matangi, been nominated for numerous awards, and collaborated with some of music's biggest stars including Jay-Z and Madonna. With a laundry list of hits in her repertoire, it's no surprise she made Rolling Stone's "Best of the Decade" list in the 00's and was named one of the World's 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine. Back on the road, M.I.A. continues to push the limits as she rocks the mic on her upcoming tour dates.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"M.I.A.'s performance was so sick! Loved the stage, the lights, the colors, and M.I.A.'s rad style and swag!!"

    Good Performance, Bad Sound System

by billfromLA on 6/1/14Shrine Expo Hall - Los Angeles

Third time seeing M.I.A., this time I had to leave because of the inadequate sound system for such a large boomy hall as the Shrine (it would have been fine for the auditorium). Drowned out by the bass reverb echo, it was hard to hear the vocals or mid frequencies. They needed more speakers in the middle and back of the hall with time delay. What we got was low budget sound which greatly diminished the event. I hope M.I.A. gets a better venue (or improved sonics) for her next LA appearance.

    M.I.A is amazing

by LSuzie on 5/11/14House Of Blues Boston - Boston

M.I.A. hands down one is one of the best performers! And I've been to a few concerts and she was defiantly the best! I loved how she really interacts with the fans! She is amazing live, although I do with that her and ASAP Ferg would have done a rap together cause that would have been cool .But overall she is so cool I would defiantly go and see her again!

This show could have been amazing, but it should have been 21+! Also no coat check! It's really hard to have a good time when your holding your jacket.

    Not Impressed

    by LMS629 on 5/7/14Métropolis - Montreal

I have seen MIA in a smaller venue and it was much better. The music was so loud at this one you could barely hear her voice - the song words are kind of important for an artist trying to get a message across. Her dancers were doing completely random things, walking off and on the stage. It got really boring to watch them after 20 minutes. Plus, the whole thing was just over an hour - she did complain that she lost her voice, so maybe that's why.

    whistled & blowed

by mamasmokez on 5/1/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

I have been listening to her since 2004 and never thought she would come to Pittsburgh. Her dancers and visuals were amazing. She had lots of energy and hyped the crowd. There were some tech issues but had a great time. She also represented by wearing a black and gold outfit.

    MIA was great!

    by sk1492 on 5/1/14Echostage - Washington

MIA brought a ton of energy to DC! Her dancers were awesome--particularly this one guy (the only guy dancer she had). The entire concert had a really good flow. She didn't have a huge group on stage with her, it was just her another singer/dancer, and two other dancers. But add in some really bright colorful light patterns, lasers, smoke, and rockin beats, and she put on a great show.

The production was well put together. MIA looked excited to be there and she definitely brought a lot of energy. Maybe not the best live vocals but overall it was great

    M.I.A absolutely perfect show!

by radbio on 5/1/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

The show was absolutely incredible. She experienced some minor mic problems so she stopped her performance and checked with the audience to make sure everyone could hear her well. You can definetly tell she is concerned with her performance and cares a lot about her fans. The sound was amazing, the lights and dancers were as well. One of the best shows I've been to.

    M.I.A. Tour….UNFORGETTABLE!

    by Donmaka90 on 4/30/14Echostage - Washington

AMAZING! I haven't been to a concert in years and this was a great way to come off my hiatus. M.I.A. is an amazing performer and I'm looking forward to seeing her again soon! A$AP Ferg is definitely on his way to greatness. I can't wait to see where his career is going to take him. Both artists were great to see together. I would have never thought that they would tour together.

She seemed tired, and apparently forgot the lyrics to paper planes. And she was overly clad.
