I have seen Lyle Lovett in concert many times, usually with his Large Band. This show was with his Acoustic Group, so I was a bit worried there would be too many slower songs. Shouldn't have worried! The pacing of the show was very good, and all of the musicians, including Viktor Krauss, Keith Sewell, Russ Kunkel, and John Hagen were first-rate. The harmony/backup singer Arnold McCuller was great, and sang one of his songs. Each musician got to perform a solo, or play an extended part of a song, during the show, and they were excellent! As always, Lyle was gracious and funny, and spoke to the audience often between songs. He performed his cover of "Well All Right" which he recently recorded for a Buddy Holly tribute CD. Didn't know he had done this, and now that song is in my iTunes library! There were a couple of songs I would have preferred over a couple that were performed, but overall it was a wonderful show. I hadn't been to the Uptown Theatre before, and it's a nice venue.
