About

Born in Sweden, Lykke Li's cool brand of electronic dream pop is decidedly Scandinavian, and bears a faint resemblance to that other Nordic music goddess Björk. In Lykke Li's music the synthesizers are like shimmering fjords, and the violins and cellos like ice-capped mountain peaks. However, it's Lykke Li's voice -- a soprano -- that has the range of a cinematic Nordic vista and his force of her music. Lykke Li dropped her debut album, Youth Novels, in 2008. In 2009, the singer-songwriter won the Meteor Music Award for Best International Artist. Lykke Li released her sophomore album, Wounded Rhymes, in 2011; featuring an innovative mix of tribal beats, skittering keyboards and sultry yet haunting, pop noir-style vocals, the album landed on many music critics' lists for best albums of 2011, including the New York Times and Rolling Stone.

Lykke Li is as famous for her eclectic concerts as she is her unusual soundscapes. Equipped with nothing but a drum kit, guitar, bass, and a necklace made of percussive instruments, Lykke Li's simple stage set-up – as minimal as a Swedish landscape in winter -- has been electrifying ticket buyers since her meteoric rise to fame in 2009. She has a massive global fan base that follows her tours all over the world, bringing venues like Observatory North Park (San Diego) to capacity. She has played big-name outdoor concert festivals like Glastonbury, Lollapaloooza, and Coachella, and has appeared on Last Call with Carson Daily and the Late Show with David Letterman. The song "Get Some" has been featured on TV programs like Hawaii Five-O and Pretty Little Liars, and "I Follow Rivers" was highlighted on Glee. The Magician Remix of "I Follow Rivers," however, is a runaway club hit in Europe, peaking at No. 1 in Romania and No. 2 in Ireland.

    Loving Lykke Li!!!

by dfc1 on 5/18/14Apollo Theater - New York

Lykke Li is an amazing songwriter/perfomer. An amazing voice, sort of like a "Swedish" Stevie Nicks! Songs that are deep from her heart. I'm certain she is going to get a lot more well known soon. The sold-out 1600 capacity Apollo Theater was perfect for a nice, tight-knit setting.

    Great Show!

by evergrn on 5/18/14Apollo Theater - New York

Lykke Li is an amazing performer. She performed a good balance of new and older songs, while breathing new life into songs that a casual listener may have skipped over on her albums. She is very engaging with the audience; telling short stories between songs and introducing some of the history of her songs. All the lighting and Lykke's movements across the stage give the show a mystical and magical theme.

    Lykke Li, Beautiful, Moving, Wonderful

by Ginag1 on 5/18/14Apollo Theater - New York

I get it now. Lykke Li is the widow in mourning on the album cover of I Never Learn, dressed in black, creepy even. This musical set of love songs about a love gone bad had me thinking this show might be a downer. But no, it was beautiful, haunting and simply perfect, Lykke Li's set was well thought out, the set design was cool (aside from the blinding lights!) the band was back-lit and Lykke's voice sounded incredible, much better than the recording. Bravo!

    Great Show

by longarche on 11/25/11Buckhead Theatre - Atlanta

An amazing show by this up-and-coming star. Monochromatic lighting and set created a unique ambiance, the extended arrangements of the songs proved quite enthralling. Short set, but a very powerful show. One gripe with the Buckhead Theatre: Hot and steamy in the auditorium. I recommend the addition of ceiling fans or other methods of circulating the air... it was stifling.

    WOW.

by milesjurden on 11/23/11Buckhead Theatre - Atlanta

Even better than I could have imagined. It's not even the fact that she did all of my favorites songs from both of her albums, but from start to finish, the crowd was in the show and ALL of her heart and emotion was in each one of them. The lighting, the acoustics, absolutely flawless.

    Energetic Passion

by keepitfierce on 11/23/11Buckhead Theatre - Atlanta

I have been a die-hard Lykke Li fan for years now, so when I discovered she was performing minutes away from my house I literally jumped for joy. The show itself started wonderfully with a beautiful supporting performance by First Aid Kit. I hadn't heard much from the duo, but I was more than pleased at the end of their short set. When Lykke Li took the stage her entrance was highly anticipated as fog machines, strobe lights and music echoed through the historic theater. Lykke opened with Jerome and sounded just as perfect as she does on her albums. The show continued with a wide selection of tracks from both albums. The band and backup singers really added to the performance and made every song unforgettable. My only complaint was that of every fan "She didn't play Breaking it Up!" Lykke skipped her hit breaking it up as well as two of my favorites dance dance dance and let if fall. The set list is up to the artist and I'm sure she just wanted to showcase more from her Wounded Rhymes album rather than Youth Novels. Overall I had an amazing time and was highly impressed with Lykke Li's performance.

This show was incredible! Starting out with First Aid Kit who completely set the bar for Lykke Li because they were just so great. Top vocals, and even better live than on the record, their folk-y, string-and-drum sound made for a great beginning. Headliner Lykke Li is a true artist to say the least. Not just in the sense that she's a recording artist, but in her performance, which rings of fine art. From the lighting to the minimalistic stage set up (which really made her stand out and helped in setting the mood of her music), she caught everyone's undivided attention every second of the show. She's one of those that really feel the music, rather than put on a show, and with that, captivates the audience. Only draw-back: Lykke doesn't communicate much at all with the audience, aside from a couple of words, and that's something I value a lot in an artist.

Lykke Li was good, but nothing special

    by DisappointedInAtlanta83 on 11/22/11Buckhead Theatre - Atlanta

Unlike her opening band, First Aid Kit, Lykke Li left little to really be excited about at the end of the night. I am glad I was able to hear her live, but Li had little interest in the audience and seemed to hurry through her set list as if she had more pressing things I attend to. Fortunately, First Aid Kit was enough to carry me through the show and Li's one encore. Just disappointed in the overall vibe of the show.

decent show. Except for the lighting, nothing was spectacular. Lykke Li is in her own zone, but not the best show I've ever seen.
