About

Born in Sweden, Lykke Li's cool brand of electronic dream pop is decidedly Scandinavian, and bears a faint resemblance to that other Nordic music goddess Björk. In Lykke Li's music the synthesizers are like shimmering fjords, and the violins and cellos like ice-capped mountain peaks. However, it's Lykke Li's voice -- a soprano -- that has the range of a cinematic Nordic vista and his force of her music. Lykke Li dropped her debut album, Youth Novels, in 2008. In 2009, the singer-songwriter won the Meteor Music Award for Best International Artist. Lykke Li released her sophomore album, Wounded Rhymes, in 2011; featuring an innovative mix of tribal beats, skittering keyboards and sultry yet haunting, pop noir-style vocals, the album landed on many music critics' lists for best albums of 2011, including the New York Times and Rolling Stone.

Lykke Li is as famous for her eclectic concerts as she is her unusual soundscapes. Equipped with nothing but a drum kit, guitar, bass, and a necklace made of percussive instruments, Lykke Li's simple stage set-up – as minimal as a Swedish landscape in winter -- has been electrifying ticket buyers since her meteoric rise to fame in 2009. She has a massive global fan base that follows her tours all over the world, bringing venues like Observatory North Park (San Diego) to capacity. She has played big-name outdoor concert festivals like Glastonbury, Lollapaloooza, and Coachella, and has appeared on Last Call with Carson Daily and the Late Show with David Letterman. The song "Get Some" has been featured on TV programs like Hawaii Five-O and Pretty Little Liars, and "I Follow Rivers" was highlighted on Glee. The Magician Remix of "I Follow Rivers," however, is a runaway club hit in Europe, peaking at No. 1 in Romania and No. 2 in Ireland.

The music was so great, she has an amazing stage presence live. Her show also used lights in a fanyastic way.

    Lykke Li was beyong amazing!

by PDXsocool on 5/31/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

The show began with Grimes opening for Lykke Li. Grimes did an awesome job on synthesizing beats and getting the crowd in the groove mode. This girl has some pretty good tracks. Her style of music does remind me of Lykke Li, but both artist have their own touches to their music. Lykke Li knows how to throw down a concert! This woman had the crowd going and her band were so so talented! Anyhow, if there's another Lykke Li concert tour in the future, count me to be there!

Lykke Li - good for 45 minutes

    by Deep6 on 5/30/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Wonder Ballroom segmented by under age and bar area for adults. Lots of sexually frustrated women "yearning" to meet their Li Lykke while wearing lots of cat mascara and uniquely dressed in all black. Opening Act "Grimes" was a study in poor melody and indiscernible pop lyrics also heavy on angst ( over having no fans?). Thank god it stopped. It was like Depeche Mode in Japan with no talent. Li Lykke hit the stage hard and fast wearing her classic black priestess garb and midi black playboy cocktail server shorts and black hose circa 1967. She had a all male orchestra who blended into the background yet made their presence known by nailing some heavy rhythm. Ms. Lykke was a vision in all black with wind swept effect and fog. Lots of hot white light. She nailed her two best: Silence is a Blessing and I Follow Rivers. Those two songs alone were worth the small admission. My crew left after one hour @ 1130 as the tunes became one big sound and rather redundant. I encourage her not to get too in love with this sixties dark character. She cannot be this angst ridden at 25. She needs to have more fun. All those pre-Arabic hand gestures grow tiresome after the first 5 songs.

Maybe she would've sounded better if I was on the floor, I had balcony seats so I didn't have to stand for 3 hours. I thought she sounded better in her videos and on mp3 though. She played the songs kind of fast, not the same speed as on mp3; seemed as if she was rushing. The lights & fog were too much to be used on every song I thought, it was hard to see her through all that and the constantly moving lights gave me a headache after a while. I wish I would've been able to make out her face and voice from up on the balcony. The balcony is so far from the stage that I thought Grimes was Lykke Li at first, it was also hard to hear what they were saying a lot of the time too. I wish there was a time setup so people could get pictures with her and her autograph too, I would've LOVED that, she is one of my favorite musicians! Maybe she should choose a different place to play next time that has a better seating arrangement. In general, I enjoyed the show, it was my first concert too, I was really excited to see her! :-) In conclusion, I would recommend less fog & moving lights, a time for pictures and autographs with her, better seating so you can see her face and her voice being audible while still being able to sit, while the music still not being super loud, and start the show like at 6 or 7pm instead, since getting out at 12 was a little late.

    So good

    by Anon12345678910 on 5/30/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

She's amazing. Played mostly songs from her new album as well as the most popular songs from her first album. Sound was really good as well. Lots of eye contact with the crowd. The crowd was probably 80% female.

The concert was absolutely amazing... Filled with energy, emotion, and a love for what she does (something some artist don't have anymore). The Showbox at the market is now one of my favorite places to see a concert at. Small enough for an intimate feel but not so packed that you can't move around

A Little Bit In Love with Lykke Li!

by AndrewMaverick on 5/30/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

The entire show was incredible! It was artistically put on, and you could really tell time was put into making this show great! She has such an adorable voice and is genuinely putting herself into her art. The vibes she gave off were that of loving energy and many flowing mediums (musical, visual, etc.). Thank you so much for bringing her to Seattle, and PLEASE BRING HER BACK over winter break or during summers! I'd really love to see her again, and bring more than just one other friend with me!

    Okay

by Anonymous on 5/27/11House of Blues - Boston

I love Lykke Li's music, but this concert was only okay. Like another reviewer had mentioned, the mood was rather somber. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how people in Boston are rating this event so high when you could barely hear the crowd when Lykke Li stopped for us to sing along. High-energy? Maybe she was, but the crowd sure wasn't. There were quite few slow songs, but this was one of the stillest crowds I've ever been part of. She told us to slow dance and people just stood there like statues. I don't know if it's her fault for not being able to work the crowd, or if the Boston audience was just boring. Either way, it wasn't an amazing experience. I'd love to give her a 5 just because she is great, but I'm rating an event here and let's not kid ourselves. Recommended only if you're a big fan and really want to see her.

It was all over by 10:30

by Brukov on 5/23/11Métropolis - Montreal

Seemed a little short! Ended by 10:30! It was as if she ran out of material. We were just warming up to the concert and then it was over.

    Lykke Li aka So Good!

by laquixotic on 5/23/11Webster Hall - New York

I must say I bought these tickets 6 months in advance, and by the time the show rolled around I was thinking about not going anymore. But I went. And i am so glad I did. Lykke Li is seriously one of the modern performers (singer/song-writer/performer) who really can transform a space and make it her own. Her soul was pretty much all over the place as was everyone else's in the room. Sounds new age? Pssssh! Whatever! souls dancing on the dance floor? Hell yeah! The lights were awesome, the smoke was awesome, her back up/band was awesome, her outfit was amazing, and she really took the show. Pulvarize me with your music! Go see her! You won't regret it!

Lykke Li fine but House of Blues venue a dud.

by Savjoke on 5/23/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Lykke Li was pretty good... lead singer was a great performer but with all of the many people that were on stage, I was really only aware of her. She sang flawlessly but the sound was terrible. I guess my expectations for the House of Blues was higher than what I got.

    Lykke Li doesn't disappoint

by ScienceNerd24 on 5/23/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Lykke Li and her band were amazing. The music, the singing, the harmonizing was pitch perfect. I only wish the show was at the original location, the Paradise instead of the House of Blues.

    Hot stuff

by xianboston on 5/22/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Her voice was great, band was awesome and she really had a solid set. The stage setup /design was frustrating (black cloth kept getting caught on a mic and blocking the view) but she really was awesome. High energy, great voice. Highly recommended. I had no idea what to expect but she really delivers.

    An incredible show

by nycmaven on 5/20/11Webster Hall - New York

Lykke Li is one of those performers who electrify their audience even before they set foot on stage. The lighting, ambiance, fog machine and set design had New York City fans wild for five minutes of a purely instrumental intro, and it only got better from there. She sounds incredible live, everyone in her band is a really talented musician, and her songs are such the better experience live than they are recorded. Even if her album doesn't have you convinced, a live show definitely will. A must-see.

    WOW!

by Anonymous on 5/20/11Webster Hall - New York

The voice, the star, the setting, the music, the hot band... everything was just amazing! Lykke Li has such a natural stage presence, beautiful voice, nothing fake, contrived or showy. She is there as a musician and that she does to perfection!

    Lykke Li was unbelievable!

by AJ1987 on 5/20/11Webster Hall - New York

Lykke Li sounds amazing live, and her show was choreographed perfectly to showcase her talent. She was herself--confident and strong--and everyone was loving it. Once again, Webster Hall proves a great place for real music.
