Lupe Fiasco in Concert

Chicago-born, Grammy Award-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco gained national attention with his 2006 album Food & Liquor, which helped cement a new wave of Chicago rappers in the national conversation. Revisit the album that put Lupe Fiasco on the map, and changed the course of Chicago hip-hop forever.

The independent rapper who parted ways with his former label, Atlantic Records, following the release of 2015's Tetsuo & Youth, is pegged as one of the most gifted lyricists and visionaries to grace the mic. Rising to fame in 2006 following the success of his debut album, Food & Liquor, Lupe has released six acclaimed studio albums; Drogas Light, released in 2017 on his own label, 1st & 15th. These albums have netted 3 platinum singles, 3 RIAA Gold Certifications, 12 Grammy nominations and one Grammy Award in 2008 for his infectious single, "Daydreamin," feat Jill Scott. With a trilogy of albums set for 2018 and beyond, Lupe is at his creative peak as an artist. Most recently, Drogas Wave released on September 21st, 2018 via 1st & 15th. His efforts to propagate conscious material helped solidify him as GQ's Man of the Year in 2006, and garnered recognition as a Henry Crown Fellow.

While musical genius and ingenuity are at the forefront of Lupe's achievements, the artist extends his innovation to projects that aim to foster creative discourse and opportunities in underprivileged and impoverished communities. As the co-founder and co-owner of community initiatives such as, We Are M.U.R.A.L, The Neighborhood Start-Up Fund, Society of Spoken Art, and Studio SV, Lupe Fiasco proves that he is more than just a mouthpiece for change, but a committed facilitator of intellectual community discourse and outreach.

    Aaaaamazing!

by BexOLa on 9/20/09The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

The opener was pretty lame, but Lupe killed it! The venue was fantastic, he really connected with the crowd and did an amazingly wide array of material. Plus the shot he took at Kanye for what he did to Taylor Swift was pretty hilarious too. If I could I would go see Lupe over and over and over and over again. Loved it!

    Lupe rocked Gov's Beach!

by Bill8289 on 9/20/09The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

If the Beach at Govenor's Island wasn't an awesome venue in and of itself, seeing Lupe Fiasco perform there made it amazing. Warmed up with 88-Keys as the single opening act, Lupe burst out with his hit "Instrumental" as a powerful opening to his set. Having gone mostly for the venue, I was completely taken in by the music. Excellent concert. Amazing venue. If you have the chance to either see Lupe or get to the Beach at Governor's Island: Do it!

    high energy and great setting

by redbecca on 9/20/09The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

Lupe Fiasco's Governor's island show was one of the better hip-hop shows that I've seen. He was super high energy, did all his old favorites and some new ones (Lasers) and had great in-between song chat. The only downside was that he didn't complete some of the songs like "Dumb it Down"- but he was working hard!

by DatBoiDane on 9/20/09The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

It was crazy he came out and fired up the crowd with his antics. The band was amazing. He remixed like three songs. He spoke to the crowd. Played new songs and old ones. Just an overall good show. I would of stayed there for five more hours screaming out "1 more song."

    Lupe shone his laser bright!

by Nelle84 on 9/20/09The Beach At Governors Island - NYC

I am an avid Lupe Fiasco concert goer and this one was not one to disapoint! They venue was great, except getting back to the city after the show proves difficult because you had hundreds of people waiting to get on the ferry! Besdies the pain in getting back, it was a great show! Lupe always puts on a great performance. I don't know if I would go to another show at Govenor's island though, simply because of the trouble it is to get back to the city!

Lupe Fiasco performed so well that I would pay over and over to see him again. The location was perfect because it allowed me to be RIGHT BY THE STAGE and catch the drummers drum stick and rap with Lupe the words to his songs. His energy is impressive and his band is talented. Lupe=Pure Energy

by Radzinsky on 9/17/09SUNY Oneonta Alumni Fieldhouse - Oneonta

First, the opening acts were far above par. I especially enjoyed Lets Tokyo (perhaps especially since i caught one of their t-shirts) their reggae-rock added a nice flavor the the whole show. But enough about the rest, let's talk about the best. Lupe was even better than I could have possibly imagined! Unlike many other acts his voice on the album is what you get live, he truly is one of the few talented singers/rappers in his genre. His band added so much to the energy and experience. With an amazing drummer, mixer, and pianist Lupe's music sounded even better than on the album. Perhaps one of my favorite things about Lupe was his gratitude towards the crowd for coming out and his infectious energy onstage. From the opening song, to the last encore, the energy never dipped low and the quality remained incredible.

Lupe Fiasco at The Chicago Theatre

by BS1SC on 8/3/09The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Lupe was fantastic! I have been to countless rap concerts and this was BY FAR one of the best. My husband is not a huge Lupe fan and he completely agrees. From the opening song to the close of the show, Lupe gave an energetic, engaging performance. Phenomenal.

Lupe brought the energy from start to finish!

by TamikaNicole on 7/26/09The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

I decided to go at the last minute, and I am SO glad I did. Lupe put on a great show and the crowd was just as LIVE!! Great experience. Lady Sovereign was a horrible opening act however. I had to leave the hall until she left the stage she gave me a headache.
