LUCIUS IN CONCERT:
Girl group powerhouse Lucius put a fresh spin on Motown and soul music with their 2013 debut album Wildewoman, combining '60s influences with a modern indie pop sound. Whether Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe are lending their jaw-dropping vocals to "Don't Just Sit There" or swaying back and forth in their matching mod frocks and intricate updos, the fierce duo packs a serious punch. With pitch-perfect vocals and harmonies, Lucius deliver pure pop bliss both on their recordings and on stage. Back on tour the stylish and effervescent collective will treat fans to their retro pop confections as they share the bill with The Head and the Heart and Sara Bareilles among a string of headlining dates of their own.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig met in 2004 while studying at Boston's Berklee School of Music. After penning lyrics and performing together under the moniker Lucius for a number of years, they turned into a five-piece, collaborating under a "musical open door policy" according to Wolfe and honing their craft to perfection. The group’s smashing debut Wildewoman earned major praise from fans and critics alike with its well-blended harmonies and funky soul sound. Hot off the heels of tours with Wilco and City and Colour, Lucius are set for a number of shows alongside fierce female Sara Bareilles and folk outfit The Head and the Heart.

I had never even heard of Lucius when I first saw them play in concert, opening for the Local Natives. They blew me away with their first song and again, repeatedly. Their performance quality is absolutely amazing live and they are a treat to hear.

I’d never heard of Lucius, but I've always had a special place in my heart for women's voices in harmony, so after a couple listens to their web music I thought I'd try them out live. Lucius filled that special place luxuriously with an slightly sad angelic, with a suspicion of the devil lurking, harmonizing. (The devil must have been the guys backing up :) Their unique approach to performance with multiple percussive sources, guitar synthesizing, and an eliminated bass guitar unnoticed by keyboards (2) filling in made the show a refreshing change from the all too familiar modern music delivery combo’s. I think Lucius has a compliment of very creative and dedicated participants that make this band click really well. I hope they can keep it together and continue to grow because I’m looking forward to experiencing the results.
A good, solid act and lively performance. Lucius will go far. True original artists.
Went expecting a new-ish band still working out kinks ... what I got was a polished, entertaining performance - start to finish. Charismatic, energetic, captivating - I could go on, I'll stop for you sake. Definitely a must-see.
